Guru Guru (UFO and Hinton)
Amon Duul (1st 2 records) Amon Duul II (1st 3 records) Brainticket was pretty weird shit though it doesn't hold up over time, some really cheesy cut n paste tape collage action but quite the influence on Nurse With Wound Ash Ra Tempel (1st 2 albums) Agitation Free's Malesch is awesome... Xhol Caravan !!! then you got Cluster, Harmonia...etc etc... and there's obviously alot of other super obscuro shit that like will never get reissued those LPs that go for easily multi-hundreds of dollars. |
it was progressive rock.
that's what the bands called it and that's what they were trying to do, german progressive rock. |
well it's progressive in that it was a developement on what happened before, but it's not prog. i don't care what the bands themselves say.
|
you get into genres and subgenres discussions.
is it a continuation of one or simply influenced but which brought something else. i think that, in the big picture, it was part of the progressive rock period (more so than sound). |
Quote:
well you could apply that logic to the stooges or hawkwind... |
hawkwind are considered prog.
the stooges were on the counterpoint of genres...sort of post garage i meant prog rock period as in time and implying an approach to music. |
Quote:
i know exactly what you meant, and my point is that defining prog that way doesn't work & you don't need to explain the stooges place in music history either. and people can consider what they like, but hawkwind aren't prog. |
whatever, i've seen hawkwind cathegorized as prog a lot. i don't really can put them in league with like procul harum or balleto di bronzo, but the lumping has been made.
actually, who cares? it's just repetitive, psychedelic 70's german rock. |
I wish someone would reprint Julian Cope's Krautrocksampler book.

He's in the middle of writing a Japrocksampler one. That should be fucking excellent.
|
He wrote a very good article about Acid Mothers Temple for mojo magazine a few years ago so i will be looking forward to that.
|
oooohh, interesting.
krautrocksampler turns up on ebay from time to time, if i was flush i'd buy it, i've seen it go for 30 or 40 quid which is pricey but not outrageous |
For people who want to listen to Kraftwerk, I recommend the Trans Europe Express.
Some people consider this the start of dance music. It was defenitly a pioneer album for computer music ![]() |

Mr.Clone is THE expert on this genre. When in doubt, follow his lead.... |
i think that's the blog Nefeli is referring to
http://8daysinapril.blogspot.com/. It's down at the moment, and i can't find the download links anymore. I have saved them up until June 2006, so I have more than enough to download anyway. My favorite of these apart from the albums I already had are Drosselbart Gäa Mythos Sperrmüll Kraan Mammut Arzachel (by the way, song # 3 from the record you can download seems to be known by MF Doom when he composed the song Old School ft. Talib Kweli) |

8 days in april closed, the site was taken down by the guy who used to do it. |

I'm plenty gay and Trans Europe Express has been rocking me since I was 14 and exposing it to my pothead friends. Good call porky.....def. a red flag.
|
i'm as straight as an arrow fired by a man who has never had a homosexual encounter in his life, but i still get down to trans europe express
|

Well, two months ago the guy, who run that site said, he was closing it down for good. Then, a few days later, he re-opened it. I downloaded stuff and hadn't looked on the site until yesterday, where it says: See you in Fall. So, unless you provide contrary information, i think, it will be up again in fall. |
Quote:
Why do you consider them being gay? |

Quote:
That still doesn't make them gay. |
Yes it does.
|
ok....
i have to study now. |
why are people so mad at me?
when he said he was closing it, i spent the whole week in the site, thru the putting ups and downs, until he posted the whole site on .rar files and said he was going to post albums on a board somewhere; once i finished copying the links to the albums i was interested, i haven't gone back until like 2 weeks ago when there was nothing on the site. so, hope you have better information and the site gets up and running again, but chill man! i have nothing against you. |

Me neither! |
I would not be opposed to a Mammut upload. I lost out on an original of that several years ago and have always been curious about it.
|
I'll try to up it tomorrow or sunday. I saved the whole site of the blog as i said before, but the Mammut zip file got deleted. The album description
A German private release from 1971, 'Mammut' is the only album I know of which opens with the sound of a squeaking mouse. Those first few seconds offer the listener a glimpse of the musical creativity inherent within. As a whole, the album combines classical, blues and acid elements resulting in a very unique psychedelic recording. The first track, 'Bird Mammut' is what the original Amon Düül should have sounded like: a cacophony of multi-layered rhythmic percussion which provides the foundation for a repetitive bass line, swirling organ, and erratic flute solos. 'Bird Mammut' segues into the short piano interlude aptly titled 'Classic Mammut'. Following this are the heavy acid-blues tracks 'Mammut Ecstasy' and 'Footmachine Mammut'. Showcasing a heavy dose of John Lord (Deep Purple) influenced hammond organ, 'Mammut Ecstasy' is a groovy number containing heavy guitar breaks. 'Footmachine Mammut' is the more laid back of the two and it has a brooding organ sound more akin to Richard Wright's (Pink Floyd) work. Both tracks are notable for their easy going acid-drenched vocals which are at times reminiscent of Damo Suzuki from Can. 'Schizoid Mammut' again returns the band to the Düül-ish primal tendencies showcased on the first track. 'Schizoid' is a fairly straightforward acid blues jam with demented vocals performed simultaneously by multiple vocalists singing in different keys! The album closes with the thirteen-minute opus 'Mammut Opera'. This track begins with a rather gloomy jazzy-piano and vocals section before turning into a progressive jam culminating with guitar and flute solos. (krautrockgroup.com) |
Amon Düül II trivia (at least, i think it was Amon Düül II, if not, any other Krautband)
I read that, in the late years of Amon Düül II, the singer of the band was the german synchronizer from ALF. As i read that the first time, i had to giggle. Former Amon Düül I member, then Jimi Hendrix groupie, Uschi Obermaier (with Rainer Langhans from the Kommune I) ![]() |
Not that i forget: a song title by Amon Düül
"Mama Düül und ihre Sauerkrautband" |
Oh mama! She is mighty pretty.
|
i had never heard about this uschi obermaier... according to wikipedia, "she was regarded by many to be the sex symbol of the 1968 generation in Europe"...

It was a sad day when 8daysinapril hit pause. My curved-air blog isn't as deep on the archives but is of a similiar ilk.
