The mv/ee and the bummer road disc might actually be my favourite of these 3. The Sunburned disc is also really strong though and would probably be my favourite if it was a it longer. Although I do like the WW disc, it's not as strong as Harem of the Sundrum/Witness Fig and he sounds a bit too Devendra Banhart-y.

threelobed 09.08.2006 12:51 PM

if you are a subscriber and have moved since the last mailing, be sure to make sure you pass along your current mailing address within the next week-ish. the third mailing (containing kinski and bardo pond) will be going out towards the end of the month. thanks!

FYI - the mirror/dash disc and the slipcase will be mailed out in the final mailing in november.

sun city girl 09.11.2006 07:31 AM

this has been a wonderful series so far!

sonicl 09.22.2006 03:00 AM

From SecondLayer records website:

We have a very limited number of sets of Three Lobed’s Modern Containment series which consists of eight CD EPs by eight different artists including Hush Arbors, Sun City Girls, Bardo Pond, Kinski, Sunburned Hand Of The Man, Matt Valentine & Erika Elder With The Bummer Road, Wooden Wand And The Omen Bones Band, Mirror/Dash and a bonus disc by Mouthus not listed on the Three Lobed website – 9 CDs in total. Each CD is at least 25 minutes long (or longer in most cases) and features new, exclusive material from that particular artist. There will also be a hand silkscreened slipcase (included in second mailing) to house the series featuring new artwork from John Gibbons of Bardo Pond. Currently 6 of the 9 CDs are ready to ship and the other 3 CDs and the slipcase will be shipped automatically in the next month or so. This set is strictly limited to 550 copies.

Hush Arbors - Landsacpe Of Bone

Sun City Girls - Live Room

Mouthus - For The Great Salt Lakes

Wooden Wand with Keith Wood, Satya Sai & The Omen Blues Band - Horus Of The Horizon

MV & EE with The Bummer Road - Play Ellas McDaniel’s ‘Who Do You Love’

Sunburned Hand Of The Man - The Mylar Tantrum

The remaining 3 CDs in the second batch will be listed soon.

threelobed 10.02.2006 02:49 PM

sorry for the mild delay on this third batch - all of the parts are now in hand and we'll have these out of here as soon as we can get all of the envelopes stuffed (late this week, first day or two of next).

likewise, all of the artwork has been approved on the mirror/dash disc and it's on schedule for a mid-november release along with the slipcase...

threelobed 10.05.2006 07:47 AM

the remaining international and domestic packages from the series' third mailing will be out in tomorrow's mail. i updated the site with illustrations of these new discs last night. start keeping an eye towards your mailbox.

in other news, the mirror/dash disc is cranking away at the plant. mid-november is our targeted mailing and all is looking good...

You're a real tease, aren't you, making us wait for the CD that we all want the most? :p

it would have been out earlier if we hadn't hit a snag with an artwork file that we couldn't correct until the summer SY tour was over. anyway, all is cranking along at the plant now. no intentional teasing...

Iain 10.05.2006 11:34 AM

So this mailing will be the Bardo Pond, Kinski AND Mouthus discs and then the Mirror/Dash on it's own in November?

I'm enjoying this series. Mainly the fact that I sort of forget about it and then it's time for another batch and because I've already paid for them, it's a bit like getting a present.

correct. three discs in this mailing (bardo, kinski, mouthus). the final mailing will be mirror/dash and the slipcase. hopefully mid-november will be the mailing of that one. the discs should be done by then and it's more of a question of if the slipcases will be (although they should be - just being cautious).

pokkeherrie 10.06.2006 02:51 AM

oh wow, so everyone is getting the mouthus disc as a bonus? nice! it's been a really great series so far.

mr. threelobed, I was wondering... any beans to be spilled yet about the bardo pond european tour in december? ;)

yep, all subscribers get the mouthus disc. it's a monster - hope you dig it!

as for the tour, i haven't been given all of the dates yet - once i have them they'll be on the site. no worries.

pokkeherrie 10.06.2006 12:17 PM

thanks! i'm especially interested in the dates right before and after ATP, so i'll be checking regularly.

sun city girl 10.11.2006 01:30 PM

i got the latest bunch today, this has been really great series!

pokkeherrie 10.11.2006 08:01 PM

i got my package today as well. i'm listening to the kinski disc now and i really should be going to bed but there's still almost half an hour to go and i don't want to turn it off yet.

so far it looks like bardo pond fans in glasgow, manchester, berlin, bristol and dublin will be lucky...

Yes!!I'm not going to atm myself but i'm planning to go to see a few of the bands if they play in London at the time.My heart says that a SY gig is in the cards but i can't be sure of that.

sonicl 10.13.2006 06:18 AM

On first listen Kinski was my favourite, it washed over me like warm honey.

sonicl 10.16.2006 02:55 AM

I listened to them again over the weekend. Kinski is still my favourite.

New Mirror/Dash CD available now
November 9, 2006

As part of it's "Modern Containment" subscription series, Three Lobed Records just released a new recording by Mirror/Dash. The CD, titled "I Can't Be Bought", contains almost 40 minutes of exclusive music from Kim and Thurston. The label still has a few subscription slots available for the full series. More details here.

threelobed 11.16.2006 12:35 PM

as of monday's mail (11/20) all of the subscriber copies of the mirror/dash disc and the series slipcase will be in the mail. it's been a hectic week and i've only been able to get about 30-50 copies out a day in the mail. thanks for being involved in the series, folks - it's been a blast! hope you enjoy your discs!

sun city girl 11.16.2006 02:24 PM

great news, looking forward to this. i've really enjoyed this series!

Moshe 11.16.2006 02:49 PM

The Mirror/Dash CD is really good. It features a live recording of the Le weekend festival gig from 2005. The artwork by Kim and Coco is great too.

Neat!

pantophobia 11.16.2006 08:22 PM

excellent, hope it comes tomorrow, the anticipation is mounting

sonicl 11.20.2006 11:34 AM

I wonder if mine will be waiting for me at home? Fingers crossed...

threelobed 11.20.2006 01:31 PM

as a bit of an update, all of the subscriber copies have been mailed as of this morning. i had 50-ish packages left to get out today - keep your eyes out soon as you should see 'em before long...

Moshe 11.20.2006 02:54 PM

I really dig the first half of the CD. Thurston's guitar sounds like a sitar or a banjo and the music is very reflective and beautiful. The second part is nosier when Kim shouts her soul out towards the end.

Mirror/Dash - I Can't Be Bought (Three Lobed)

Mirror/Dash is the eternal duo of Thurston Moore and Kim Gordon, going completely free-form for the experimental Le Weekend Festival in Scotland. Recorded live in May of 2005, the disc is one song covering their entire performance clocking in at nearly 40 minutes and the final edition to Three Lobed's stellar Modern Containment CD EP subscription series. The music contained herein falls decidedly on the experimental side of Youth projects. It starts off calmly enough with Moore's clicking strums and pauses meeting Gordon's husk whispering run through some sort of light effects. Soon, underlying feedback whines foreshadow coming noisy intensities; Moore guitar playing becomes more and more fevered as Gordon adds strings that are the closest the album will approach to melody. Then, losing any pretense as to 'playing' their guitars, the couple delves into their trademarked arena of the harsh. The section is quelled with surprising brevity and they return to strumming over what sounds like shortwave radio transmissions. The playing here wouldn't sound out of place on a standard Youth release but soon the feedback returns, along with Gordon's alternately effected/not-effected voice. Over the last several minutes, the musical component becomes softer and softer, punctuated by Gordon's repeated cries of "Shake!" before a final crescendo of guitars, voice, and the album's first instance of percussion ends the set to excited applause. Ultimately, your enjoyment of the disc comes down to your devotion to Sonic Youth and position on Gordon's famed voice, as this is the sort of recording geared nearly solely towards pre-existing fans. If you consider yourself one, hurry and get your hands on it.

Bollocks_to_Pop 01.17.2007 01:54 AM

Does anyone know if there's any place to buy this without having to subscribe? I got the Sunburned cd that way. I would buy the series except I don't have enough money and I'm not into most of the bands.

SonikJesus 01.17.2007 02:09 AM

I got these bacj in December all at once. I like the Hush Arbors one and the MV & EE one and of course the Mirror/Dash one. I still have to give the others a few more listens. But the Sun City Girls one is pretty boring.
