Oh i'm a really crap italian at that because i'm mad for fish and chips. But then London is more sophisticated than the rest of England so i can live on chinese food for days on ends.haha
|
I have to confess that as a vegetarian, I'm not really qualified to be commenting on this. I just got a bit carried away.
But cheese and pickle sandwiches are lovely. |

......And so is vinegar!
|
....and polenta!

Branston Pickle = Good
Piccalilli = Now that is evil. |
I'm really fond of vegemite, though.Once i've discovered that i've become addicted to it.

As for cheese, OKA is amazing, check it out. I dislike pickles other than dill, they're usually bitter and gross.
|
polenta is rather bland but with the right sauce... oh yeah!
porkie ,are you from the north by the way? (i'm thinking if you hate polenta you must be sick of it, ha ha) |
I was born in Sardinia but as a kid i was brought up in different parts of Northern Italy.I have family a bit all over the place.

Polenta is also great with a rabbit stew. Mmmm. How I miss being a carnivore sometimes. |

ah!!!! see that explains it. you know, i want to go to france and italy and eat and then commit suicide, because i know it will all be downhill from there. so you don't miss sardinian seafood? i know that's the only thing that would make me go back home, ha ha. -- Quote:
ah, bless you for that great suggestion. i haven't eaten rabbit for years. there are some wild ones around my house, but i haven't had the balls to shoot one yet. now after reading this, i might go get a gun, ha ha. |

![]() Is that the same as marmite? |
I can't get enough of fish in wichever form or shape.I'm addicted to fish and i smell fishy myself considering that i'm a porkchop(pork is vile too,by the way).
|
Marmite is much nicer than vegemite, but i think it's the same thing.
|
sanitarium? is it for ill people?
|

Yeah but for vegetarians. |
i love marmite on buttered toast, but the last time i had it, it gave me headaches. (im thinking i might have had too much).
-- im going to eat sushi tomorrow. oh yes. |
Oh yes sushi,yummy!

Sushi rules! It's the only way I'll eat raw fish. |
Marmite is vegetarian porky.
Customer Reviews of Marmite Customer Rating: ***** Review Summary: NOT VEGEMITE! Review: Marmite is the greatest thing since sliced bread. It is the thing that most ex-pats miss. But it is most definitely NOT Vegemite. That is an entirely different thing. Well - not that entirely different maybe. But, to my mind, Marmite is far superior. It tastes 'meatier', is a glorious glossy brown/black colour, comes in a much nicer jar and makes a lovely drink. 1 teaspoon in a mug of hot water in which you dunk thick slices of buttered bread. Lived on this when a poor student. |
I'm one the few people in the world who doesn't love or hate marmite.I just quite like it. Actually that love or hate thing is bollocks, most people just like it.
|
Well, the general idea i got is that it is targeted at vegetarians.
|
I thought vegemite was just an Australian version of Marmite?
|
Quote:
you should try cebiche, and tiradito, both peruvian dishes. not the crappy imitations of american restaurants. grab yourself a flight & go taste the real thing! it's like food heroin, i swear. |
It's australian but i thought that the veg in the name is an indication that iit s food for vegetarians?I got indoctrinated to it by a vegetarian so that's the assumption i've made.

What does it consist of... besides raw fish? |
i think it's just a difference in name between england and australia. it's pretty much yeast in both cases, as far as i've been told, though i've never tried vegemite. maybe it's a case of brand names or something.

I was told by a teacher of mine when I was a kid, that it was an extract from cow blood. Go figure? |
Oh no,i'm not too keen on that. How did this thread turn into a culinary slanging match?

cebiche has raw fish (and/or seafood) marinated in lime juice so that the acid "cooks" it. it has onions, hot peppers, garlic, & other secret ingredients. eaten cold with sweet potato or sweet corn (cold). tiradito is a simpler, "cleaner" version. the trick is not to overcook the thing. 20 minutes to 2 hours is the right time. though i once worked in a fucked up american restaurant where they kept the "cebiche" in the refrigerator for a week. fortunately i was fired. we would never do such crimes back home. (the idiot cook actually cooked the pesto as well, fucking up the flavor-- what a dunce) |
