I've watched the show before, it's not the worst thing ever. The annoying bantering is unbelievable, but both mom and daughter are very attractive.

My cousin is Coco's age and she loves the fuck out of that show.

LifeDistortion 04.07.2006 02:38 PM

What is "Gilmore Girls"? Its a show about a mom who got knocked up when she was sixteen, so now that her daughter is a teenager, they act more like sisters or friends then mother and daugther and sometimes its sappy and weepy, and other times it tries to be pseudo-intellectual, because the daugther goes to prep school/college and reads a lot, so they throw in a lot of reffrences to literature. Seen episodes here and there, don't hate it, don't love it, can take it or leave it. Might check out the episode to see Kim and Thurston.

The news about Kim, Thurston and Coco appearing on Gilmore Girls has hit Stereogum. To wit:

"Sonic Youth, who are opening for Pearl Jam (ouch!) this summer, visit Stars Hollow today to tape a cameo for the WB drama's season finale. In the Gilmore episode, airing 5/9, Thurston, Kim, and daughter Coco (on shakers, awww) will perform an acoustic version of "What A Waste."

As always, don't forget to read the comments.

saoq 04.07.2006 05:16 PM

I sometimes watch it - i like watching that time of stuff when I eat and here it's aired on lunch time. plus the mother is sometimes sexy.
kool thing was used before - http://blog.bitflux.ch/archive/2006/...ore-girls.html
so perhaps someone from the show likes sy

Well, I've never seen Gilmore Girls but it sounds fairly trashy. Trashy tv can be nice sometimes. Let's not get into some kind of debate about which TV programs are good and which are bad. All tv is essentially the same anyway....it's a by product of the medium of television. But I'm not going to get on my high horse about it too much...I've even been know to stoop as low as watching the OC or Hollyoaks for fuck sake.

pao-lino 04.08.2006 08:28 AM

if you remember few years ago violent femmes where special guest stars in... teenage witch...so....

greenlight 04.09.2006 08:02 AM

maybe mainly for Coco to be familiar with media enviroment, for her future like? just speculating. how old is she now actually?

samuel 04.09.2006 09:02 AM

I'm glad it's a Kim song.

adjectives-ex 04.09.2006 09:34 AM

i used to love that show

Flen flyys 04.09.2006 01:24 PM

Jesus, Gilmore Girls is fucking brilliant. I used to think it was some kind of nonsense bullshit by the look of it when my mom was telling me I'd like probably it...yeh thanks but no thanks ma, Gilmore Girls?...but then I watched it and all they do is reference a shit load of music and movies and TV shows and books that I love for an hour and interact with crazy/quirky characters in their little-slice-'o-heaven small town and have some slightly sappy-soapy storylines but that ain't so bad when you're on board with the characters. I'm big into the DVD's of it and I think it's awesome SY is going to be on it. Now if only they can throw a Kristin Hersh and a Mark Lanegan reference my way I can be fully satisfied.

Yeah this reminds me of an interview in montreal's mirror w. thurston a year or so ago... about how he dug the PowerPuff Girls' cd because his daughter liked it :)

LifeDistortion 04.09.2006 03:48 PM

And weren't "The Flaming Lips" on one of the last episodes of "Beverly Hills 91210"? WTF?!

the powerpuff girls' movie soundtrack has songs by shonen knife and apples in stereo

HaydenAsche 04.09.2006 09:46 PM

Yeah, dude. Apples in Stereo did a song for Ed, Edd, and Eddy as well.

schizophrenicroom 04.09.2006 11:17 PM

Sonic Youth Gigs With Gilmore Girls

April 06, 2006, 3:10 PM ET

Jonathan Cohen, N.Y.
Sonic Youth principals Thurston Moore and Kim Gordon, plus their daughter Coco on shakers, will appear on the season finale of the WB drama "Gilmore Girls" to perform an acoustic version of the new song "What a Waste." The show, of which the Moore/Gordon family is a professed fan, will be taped tomorrow (April 7) in Los Angeles and will air May 9.

As previously reported, "What a Waste" can be found on Sonic Youth's next album, "Rather Ripped," which will arrive June 13 via Geffen.

In other Sonic Youth news, Moore has been chosen to curate the Nightmare Before Christmas edition of the All Tomorrow's Parties festival later this year. The event will be held Dec. 8-10 in Somerset, England, and will feature performances by Sonic Youth and Iggy and the Stooges. The full lineup will be announced in the coming months.

Before it begins a short West Coast tour opening for Pearl Jam in July, Sonic Youth will perform April 20 in Paris and June 18 at the Bonnaroo Festival in Manchester, Tenn. Moore is also scheduled to discuss "Rather Ripped" tonight on Air America Radio's "Marc Maron Show."

that's the funniest thing I've ever heard (and they've ever done)!! was that coco's demand??hm propably... she'z A BIG fAN of the Gilmore Girls!! I bet on that!hehe:cool:

Spinning Dream 04.11.2006 10:50 PM

a big part of me wants to scream "WHY GOD WHY?!?!?!?" but chances are i'll probably end up watching it due to nothing else better to do

Edit: never mind. it's during my finals week. chances are probably not.

krastian 04.11.2006 11:09 PM

Yeah the whole thing is pretty weird, but I'll probably end up watching it because I am a sick fuck.

Chris Lawrence 04.11.2006 11:38 PM

amazing! second best show on prime time tv (and there are only 2 good shows on primetime tv)..

samantha. 04.13.2006 02:57 AM

I admit that I enjoy watching Gilmore Girls, so I'll be definitely watching it regardless if Thurston, Kim and Coco are in it. I doubt I would be watching it any time soon as Australia is behind in terms of episodes.

ithinkimissyou 04.13.2006 03:09 AM

They dont seem to show GG on tv over here anymore. Didnt they make a quip about the Dead Kennedy's touring without Jello a few seasons ago as well? Hah.

I'd love to see this.

sonik life 04.13.2006 06:30 AM

I've never seen it, but I'm curious. Does the UK get it? Somebody has said it airs on Nickelodeon or Hallmark - any ideas?

kingcoffee 04.13.2006 10:10 AM

Now this just irritates me. Iv'e (unfortunately) seen the Gilmore Girls before. And it SUCKED!!! This is a horrible show. Not much more you can say about it. They talk so fast and respond so quickly that it makes it sound like their conversations are witty reparte but it's just annoying and stupid. I don't know why Thurston< KIm and their daughter would do this. Maybe Cocoa likes the show, she's kinda young. The show is geared toward girls her age. This reminds of the Flaming Lips performning Turn It On on Beverly Hills 90210 in 1995. A really great indie/alternative band performing respectable material on a bland, watered-down, cheesy, teen comedy-drama. It makes me die just a little inside. But I'll still watch the show with the sound off until SY appear and perform.
