it doesn't worry me because their last album largely sucked.

schizophrenicroom 07.29.2008 09:45 PM

i don't care if it sucks or not. i fucking love deerhoof.

Everyneurotic 07.29.2008 10:19 PM

i love them too, i thought i had typed somewhere in this thread that i hope their new album is better than friend opportunity.

atsonicpark 07.30.2008 05:55 AM

I think it will be.

Hanging out with experimental dental school some more will be good for them.

fucking great band.. e.d.s. that is....

i seriously hope deerhoofs new one is a vast improvement on friend, it has its moments but overall its possibly their poorest showing to date, i actually really like runners four........ give me milk man or apple o anyday tho!

atsonicpark 07.30.2008 08:29 AM

runners four is my favorite... it's maybe a bit too long, but it has all their best songs on it!

batreleaser 07.30.2008 08:56 AM

i actually got pretty sick of 'jane doe loves me'. anyways, both are fantastic bands. gotta love quirky noise-y pop bands.

greedrex 01.28.2009 04:58 AM

I have decided that i am now OFFICALLY a fan of the band DEERHOOF.
there.

atsonicpark 01.28.2009 05:01 AM

..............................................end of thread?

Everyneurotic 01.28.2009 08:55 AM

what happened to deerhoof?

they were so inspired and then, bam! mediocrity.

elistist
i think they're actually getting better and better in the songwriting dept and at the same time getting less and less noisy, which is i think what i mean by mediocrity. It's not noisy or random enough for you, which i can understand.
love'em.

chairman of the bored 01.28.2009 06:47 PM

Hmm...i really like friend opportunity. anyways, offend maggie is finally starting to grow on me after being a major initial disappointment. what the fuck does the title mean anyway?

Everyneurotic 01.28.2009 08:20 PM

boring now, not noisy or whatever.

and their songs have become, in my opinion, less inspired. i wouldn't care if they did completely soft music from now on, as long as it's well written and well performed, but to me that's not the case.

runners four is hardly noisy and it's great.

offend maggie is better than friend opportunity, but not by much.

atsonicpark 01.28.2009 09:07 PM

They're better songwriters now, that doesn't mean that their songs are better. If that makes sense. A band can technically get "better" but that doesn't make them as exciting to listen to.

Am I the only one who thinks the first song on Offend Maggie sounds like a Rolling Stones song...

Green Magnesium 01.28.2009 10:15 PM

Rolling Stones were the first thing that popped into my head when I first turned on the album.

I love Offend Maggie and I like Friend Opportunity. I think both are engaging/interesting records. I guess I like them more now that they're actually focusing on making music instead of trying to be weird for the sake of being weird... :p

atsonicpark 01.28.2009 10:29 PM

I like everything they've done, really. They have their ups and downs. I dunno. They have still released the largest quantity of high quality music of almost any band in the past 10 years.

Green Magnesium 01.28.2009 10:33 PM

I really do like everything I've heard from them so far (well, at least from Reveille onward). I was only half-serious with my final comment.

chairman of the bored 01.29.2009 12:24 AM

Warning: pretty ripping live stuff on pitchfork.tv at the moment.

fugazifan 01.29.2009 12:36 AM

i like deerhoof, i lost interest when i bought FO. i listened to it again a few days ago and realized what i didnt like about it. there were some great songs on it, but the really slow songs, while good, sounded terrible with her voice.
they attempted to fit in genres that not only didnt really work, but her voice really made them sound bad.

i like reville

Thanks for that! I never realized Pitchfork had a site like that.

And there's actually some pretty good stuff on it! (It's hideously organized though, ick)

greedrex 01.29.2009 08:46 AM

nice vids , thx!

chairman of the bored 01.29.2009 10:52 AM

haha...the recipe for their denny's meal is incredible!!!
"we take a fistful of french fries and punch it through a watermelon, then we flash fry it again and inject it with kiwi puree" or something along those lines...good stuff and two more ripping songs...looking forward to tomorrow's update.

afterthefact 01.29.2009 11:06 AM

Deerhoof is one of the largest influences on the music I play, as well as the way I look at and think about music.
