Anyway, I just got back home an hour ago having got up at 7:00am...I need a nap before seeing Sunburned and Six Organs this evening.
More pics and audio will be forthcoming in a week or so I reckon. A lot of the boardies that came from out of the country are hanging around a bit this week before going back... I hope Pokkeherrie won't mind me mentioning that he got a pretty good recording of the Bardo Pond set... |
absolutelly fantastic. no words yet. i'll post later. i'm off to "bed" now.
here's setlist from friday show. |
can anyone confirm... i think SY played 2 new tracks on Saturday. I might have been a little intoxicated...

You'll have to speak to my neice about that I'm afraid. She might let you, but she might also not let you and try and use your back as a trampoline, which really, really fucking hurts. |
Queer fuckin' hat dude.

can you like say who's who? I only can point out sonicl from this pic. |
Well just got back myself... still a little tired and euphoric... the whole thing was totally amazing... I have seen soo much fantastic stuff that my head is still spinning... it was incredibly surreal to meet and greet a few boardies... and it's a shame that I didn't get to meet everyone. I saw T+B around quite a lot but didn't get a chance to talk to him... I did however meet up with Whorefrost and his friend quite a lot and what great people they were too... also Nefeli, Jon boy, Pokeherrie, Sonicl, Iain, Moshe and Greenlight.
...my favourite performance of the entire weekend has to be NNCK... they blew my mind in a way that I haven't experienced before and then took me somewhere else... I swear that they put a spell on me... especially towards the end of the set. Absolutely incredible. The Dead C did the same thing and managed to neutralize my, by that stage on friday night, splitting headache and general hey this is the beginning of your hangover body phase. Also Bark haze... Peter Brotzmann... Double Leopards... Dead Machines... Lambsbread... Wolf Eyes... the Stooges... Blood Stereo... Mouthus... Skaters... the Markers... Leslie Keffer and 16 Bitch Pileup... |
Somebody share more details on the Dead C performance, please. What kind of set did they play?
|
...it was one long continuous piece that was beautifully loud and intricate with infinite peaks and troughs... improvised on the spot as far as I could discern ... although traces of previously released moments may have been introduced at various points. I felt very lucky to be witnessing the spectacle...as they have rarely made it to these shores and I savoured every moment... Thanks Thurston!

Hey Jon boy... sorry I didn't see you after Sunburned... but by this stage I was really shredded and was leaving very early the next morning so I headed off to bed... like a wuss.

its cool. i pretty much did the same thing too. sunburned were amazing dont you think? |
I made it in to both ST shows too. They were both amazing, but I think Friday just shaded it (although it was on the short side).
Stuff I remember from Saturday that wasn't on the Friday list: World Looks Red, 100%, Kool Thing, Mote, Or, Rats...could be more, but those are the first to pop into my tired mind. I missed Candle - they were already playing Reena when I arrived on Saturday. I assume that was the 2nd song? Bark Haze were incredible too; not to mention Dinosaur, NWW, Gang of Four, Awesome Color, etc, etc. What a weekend! |
can't anybody remember the proper setlists? that would be cool

Yeah I really enjoyed them... and laughed quite a lot at the antics onstage... but I couldn't get NNCK out of my mind. |
no they really shook me up. two amazing bands back to back was almost too much to handle.
i have plenty of pics and i know they were taped performances so i will post pics and sound later. |
on friday, the highlight for me was the dead c. it was perhaps the band i was the most looking forward to (because i had never seen them before, and i have the feeling i would not get so many other chances to see them), and i absolutely loved their set even though i was shattered towards the end (fatigue was always a problem for me during this week-end, i often felt like an old man who needed to take a seat regularly or he would have to be carried to the hospital...). yes, it was a relentless seemingly improvised piece with traces of songs at times (for example their song which is called "bad politics" i believe)... everything flowed so good, to me it seemed perfect. and i'm glad to see i'm not the only one who loved it, because the people i talked to about it did not seem so enthusiastic about it.
i was also disappointed by nurse with wound, but i was watching them from a long distance and it's true that in those venuee if you are not in front of the stage but near the bars or the blinking casino machines, it's difficult to get into the music (the whole atmosphere of the Butlins site seemed so weird for such a festival)... anyway the second track NWW played, the one from "awkward pause", i really like it on record, but i didn't like their rendition of it... maybe it's just because the bouzouki was missing (or was it there? i could not hear it...)... another downside of the NWW was that i missed ashtray navigations, whom i wanted to see... other than that, iggy & the stooges were a lot of fun, and it was good to see sonic youth again... on saturday i loved the sequence mats gustaffson & eye > corsano/flaherty/yeh > brötzmann/bennink... especially corsano/flaherty/yeh even though i missed the end of it (probably only five minutes) because i left to try see gang of four... but the queue was so long (probably because dinosaur jr played afterwards) they told us to not even bother and go to some other stage (bah, i guess they are chances that gang of four would have been disappointing but i really regret not seeing them... especially because of the queues)... so saturday was pretty much only stage 2 for me, which also involved mv/ee + bummer road which i really liked, especially when corsano joined (if i remember correctly)... the end of comets on fire with corsano and yeh was amazing too. in fact everytime corsano joined a band, it was wonderful. first time i saw him, and was impressed. nice to see him jump on his seat like he does. |

Excellent I can't wait... it's strange being back home now... I wish that I could do it all again and see the rest of the bands that I wanted to see but didn't get a chance to... talk about an embarrassment of riches... |
on sunday, i really liked my cat is an alien... missed white out + nels cline who were playing at the same time, and were supposedly excellent according to the people i talked to (were they?)... i felt a bit like a zombie on that day, but as i was going to see six organs of admittance, a girl walking in the other direction, pointed at me from a 5 meters distance, came to me, kiss me and then went away without that we exchanged words... this was effective to wake me up and get ready for the final concerts... oh i loved nnck + sunburned of the man as a ending of the festival, both of them... i think that the shotm gig was actually a bit uneven but when it was great, it certainly was great, especially at the end, and i did not want this concert to stop... i had actually some sort of short-term depression starting a few minutes after shotm finished, that is when i realised that the parties were over. hmm, today i'm better.
truly excellent week-end. i also nearly enjoyed everything i got to see... even bands i'm not really into or of whom i am not a big fan but was interested to watch... it's a shame i was actually sick during the whole of it, but luckily alcohol and of course the wonderful music helped me forget about it for the most part. |

They're playing London this week with Charalambides (who I missed at ATP) so I think I'll have to go unless it's sold out.
