Hello everyone.

Terror on the tracks

A giant owl is terrorising commuters at Middlesbrough Train Station....

The Eagle Owl, which has a five foot wingspan and can dine on animals as big as foxes and small deer, has been spotted in Middlesbrough since September, but in recent weeks it has taken up residence on the rooftops around the railway station, where it has been seen "swooping" on passers by, chasing drinkers and catching pigeons.

Craig Smith, of Southfield Road, Middlesbrough, was running through the station car park to catch a train when the bird approached him from behind.

He said: "I heard this woo-woo noise dead loud and I looked over my shoulder and saw this big thing with silver wings swooping on me with its claws stretched out.

"I ran as fast as I could onto platform one and it flew off.

"On Christmas Eve I saw it go for a man coming out of Last Orders and chase him down the street."

However, one St Hilda's resident who has had a very close encounter with the owl, said there is nothing to be frightened of.

Peter King, 63, of Tower Green was so curious about the bird which had left his neighbours "petrified" that he went in search of it.

He said: "I was walking through Exchange Square and whistled and held my arm out. Then suddenly this bird landed on my shoulder. I started talking to it and it just hooted back at me.

"It was a lovely bird but in no way aggressive. It was a good job I was looking for it, though otherwise I think I would have died a thousand deaths when it landed on me.

"Some people have been getting taxis home because they're worried about being attacked, but there's no need."

Local owl experts also said the creature is no risk to humans, although cats and small dogs may be at risk of becoming a light lunch.

Rachael Stewart, a volunteer at the Kirkleatham Owl Centre said: "It probably thinks these people are its handler and will associate them with food, it's not attacking them."

Trasher02 01.17.2007 12:12 PM

Haha, dogs and cats for a light lunch.
Silly owls.

I almost died from a bee sting when I was little. I had to go to the hosiptal and I could barely breathe and made me think really weirdly. Afterwards I had to get a needlefull of bee venom every week for two years to become immune to it, it was terrible!

k-krack 01.18.2007 10:07 PM

I've been drinking heavy amounts of coffee lately...

Hey Rob!

The L Word funny to watch sometimes

schizophrenicroom 01.18.2007 10:23 PM

i've never watched that, but i used to know this girl on a forum that was obsessed.

i haven't watched any tv this week, really. save for the office, logo channel, and the smooth jazz channel. sean puts it on because he found it puts the cat to sleep.

k-krack 01.18.2007 10:27 PM

A friend of mine is in love with The L Word. Never watched it.
I love Arrested Development. I started watching it a couple weeks ago, and I can't get enough.

neptuneg 01.18.2007 11:04 PM
