If I didn't know any better, I'd assume knox knows more about this country than anyone that actually lives here.

England's sorry record of failed revolutions puts us in no position to sermon anyone on popular uprisings, let alone Americans. Unless they want to know how not to go about them, of course.

Knock knock, at the Whitehouse door.
- mh, yes?
- yeah hello, I'm a member of the american people, and I'm not satisfied AT ALL with this government. So please leave quickly as I'll have a lot of work to write a new constitution and everything (and don't take the furnitures with you).

Now THAT's a modern constitution!!

it's the right to revolution, doesn't mean you have to, you know? it's good to know it's there, the right.

Some revolutions can't go too far w/ out the aid of guns, Knox. That Ghandi shit can't always work.

Sorry to be the one to break it to ya.

knox 08.24.2010 11:20 PM

oh thanks daddy.

ann ashtray 08.24.2010 11:25 PM

Oh yeah, after all these comments, now I know American culture. And still I'm a bit surprised, that there are Sonic Youth fans with a stupid wild west cowboy trapper brain from hundreds years ago.

I'm always a bit weirded out by people who think figuring someone out is as easy as judging them by their musical tastes. Sonic Youth write awesome tunes, they aren't a lifestyle. 'Least, they shouldn't be.

krischanski 08.25.2010 05:25 AM

You're right, it's only music.

But the band itself is part of a specific music scene with a typical kind of lifestyle and a general direction of political opinions and cultural life. And most of the fans will fit it, I think, and differences are less common.

In my collection I have some records from racist/ sexist/ nationalistic (metal and oi!) bands, because I like(d) the music, but I am not a fan of them and don't post in any related fan boards.

So: I'm still a bit surprised about your statements.

And: I do not need a gun. And I don't see why anyone could need one.

Thurston Moore is a fan of GG Allin, J Mascis played guitar for GG (it's rumored Thurston filled in for a few shows, too)....not to mention Wayne Kramer and countless others....

What does this say about the scene you speak of? Hopefully, nothing.

The exception proves the rule. (If it's the same scene. Don't know these names.)

knox 08.25.2010 07:56 AM

I think what he/she is trying to say is that it isn't about the music, but the fact that SY generally has a clear political stand/msg.
