sounds awesome!

i'm gonna roast some chickens today

i haven't bought any meat since december and i have a reezer full of red meats but the nose wanted bird. so i bought 2.

i found this recipe:

VIKING CHICKEN

"low brow and hard to mess up."

my kind of food!

i got some old apples to get rid of which works perfect.

schizophrenicroom 02.16.2015 02:28 PM

oh, that chicken looks good.

evolghost- yum. i like sweet potatoes with maple syrup and cayenne pepper on top.

yes it does. i have eggplants, sweet potatoes and some mixed vegetables for it.

but because i have 2 chickens i'm using one to make this first:

http://www.jamieoliver.com/recipes/c...B2AVDQhqZ9f.97

like milk steak! boiled HARD! with jelly beans! but for serious, i had some milk leftover so this works. also i didn't have lemons (only key limes) and i used zest from oranges instead. and i didn't have sage (not even dry) so i'm using thyme. thyme w/ orange *should* work out. fingers crossed.

now it's in the oven i have 90 minutes to destroy.

schizophrenicroom 02.16.2015 03:58 PM

milk steak!best served with a bag of spaghetti. thyme with orange sounds fine.

I made cacio e pepe for lunch. then ate more pecorino by itself. do let me know how the chicken comes out.

Rob Instigator 02.16.2015 04:17 PM

boiled over hard!

Bytor Peltor 02.16.2015 06:42 PM

DQ Nachos is what my daughter wanted for a snack between school and dance......and they were soooo good! (ours also had lettuce and tomatoes)

you ever made cacio e pepe w/ ramen? look up david chang's version (i think it was him).

eta: if you're ever out of parmesan/pecorino, try the hippie version of it-- nutritional yeast. good stuff, cheap, rich in glutamates.

--

the chicken came out pretty good but a bit too sweet tasting for me

i think i put too much cinnamon

the way i'd redo this would be by adding some curry powder instead (kinda like a chicken tikka)

also the suggested serving ("with greens or spinach") seems insufficient. i'd add a mound of rice or something. which i'll do for the reheats (maybe i'll add teh curry powder then & see).

the viking chicken is out of the oven but i won't eat till later. looks plenty crispy. i didn't have butter so i used bacon fat instad.

i need to get me a camera that doesn't show all my private info like the exif data on iphone photos.

!@#$%! 02.16.2015 08:19 PM

plus:

the so-called viking chicken came out tastier-- crispy & savory

the only problem was the bottom part that sits on the vegetable had soggy skin-- so next time i'll spatchcock the fucker-- skin up, cavity down.

the corn at the bottom (i had these frozen mixed veggies to dispatch-- corn/carrot/peas/green beans) roasted really dark & nice. the eggplant added a bit of heat. sweet from the apples & sweet potatos. the onions roasted darked too. the orange i tied up inside the bird was really tasty. the bacon fat probably worked better than the butter would have.

after deboning the bird & peeling the vegs i mixed it all up & ended with 1 gallon of tasty garbage-- i mean it looks like a mess but it's gooood. sort of like a dryish stew, kinda like when you cook meat underground (not sure you've ever done that). meaning it's all nicely cooked soft & moist but not boiled.

it all tastes like sweet victory. i think i'm set for the whole week.

schizophrenicroom 02.17.2015 12:00 AM

ohh, bacon fat. you had me there. and egg plant. i can't reply coherently to either of your posts because i'm salivating too much.

bytor- i love their chicken tenders. i'm a big kid.

i forgot to say i went to TJs the other day and took a look at their various salads (garbanzo etc). we photographed the labels so i can rip off the recipes. i got the idea from your meal the other day. anyway i'll keep you posted on that.

schizophrenicroom 02.17.2015 04:44 PM

i'm hoping my replacement ebt card came in today so i'm gonna make a trip to tjs. i want their perogies.

oy, no! that's how the money bleeds fast.

the way to stretch a buck is to make those things.

http://allrecipes.com/recipe/grandmas-polish-perogies/

"ready in 2 hours"

then you have a bunch of leftover ingredients for the next day

if you don't have a rolling pin just use a bottle

schizophrenicroom 02.17.2015 05:16 PM

oh shit, and i can make that in my kitchen. i think i'll do that this weekend.

hell yes. you can make a nice afternoon of it by inviting a friend to bring over drinks, and cooking while you hang out.

what you wanna buy is not prepared foods (a ripoff that will keep you poor), but basic staples-- and the seasonings to work them. when buying produce, try to buy frozen only-- they are a way better deal because they don't go bad and the supply chain doesn't need to compensate for spoilage. and yes, chopped kale comes frozen (for your garbanzo salad).

schizophrenicroom 02.17.2015 11:08 PM

I had quinoa with sun dried tomatoes, more kale, green beans, tomatoes, and chili sauce. all fresh. my card came so whoot. before that at a Thai place I had a peanut curry with tofu. so good.

yeah, this weekend is perogie time when it isn't pouring and I can go walk and stock up.

!@#$%! 02.17.2015 11:22 PM

i was browsing pierogi recipes (too much work for my ADD but i'm curious) and looks like you can make a bunch of dough at a time and freeze for later use. which reminds me i have a pizza doughball in the freezer (for the weekend i guess--just take it out a day before)

also, the weird milk chicken tasted way better with curry powder. suck on that, jaime oliver!

aaaand here's how you start a pantry:

ha ha ha. my favorite! (just aged cayenne, vinegar and salt. no weird colors, no garlic, no nothing).

!@#$%! 02.18.2015 09:45 AM

i was looking at bodbuilder diets and found this video. it's insane. enough food to feed a beast for $50/week:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MNctsEFp7Zs

i can't eat like that, but wow.

schizophrenicroom 02.18.2015 01:48 PM

I struggle to eat enough, as hungry as I am. thinking about bodybuilders and like, nfl players freaks me out.

that hot sauce looks fantastic. I like garlic in my hot sauce most times, though... garlic nut in me.

I'm currently eating an egg/tofu/cheese/pepper burrito my friend made. with sriracha. last night we drove to Georgia and found a too wing place/bar still open and they were delicious.

EVOLghost 02.18.2015 03:13 PM

had my first paczki yesterday.

Rob Instigator 02.18.2015 03:15 PM

delicious lunch. last nght's leftovers

BBQ chicken legs (skinless)
green beans with slice almonds and butter
roasted cabbage with cayanne
roasted fingerling potatos
water

that man eats MOUNTAINS of protein. it's insane. his menu is 1 dozen eggs, 1 lb chicken, 1lb potatoes, 2 cups oatmeal, a bunch of broccoli, and a banana, all in a day. what's amazing is that he manages this on 50 bucks a week, or $7 per day. i can eat for less, actually, but i'm not a bodybuilder.

his $100/week challenge includes beef and buckets of cottage cheese.

both are worth checking out as exercises in budgeting.

anyway yeah crystal rules. garlic is nice but with pure cayenne you get options (e.g, add garlic, add fish sauce, add whatever). so i get the biggest of bottles they carry at walrats. in truth the best deal is just cayenne powder. the less processed, the better value. maybe i'll start making/bottling my own hot sauce. HEY, THAT'S A GOOD IDEA. i can use my own vinegars (apple) etc.

!@#- yeah, i put cayenne on everything. i should try making my own. cant wait to get my own place.

schizophrenicroom 02.21.2015 09:51 AM

last night I had brussel sprouts/pasta/pancetta/asiago cheese in a white wine and butter sauce that I made. fucking awesome.

right now I have turkey sausage and scrambled egg with mushrooms and pepper jack cheese in a habanero lime tortilla with tons of salsa

hot damn! that sounds fantastic. good to see you inspired like that! i'm hungry now...

(btw, as an everyday alternative to pancetta check out TJ's bacon ends-- $4/lb. and amazing flavor-- it's just not sliced in long even rectangles, but that's why you have a knife, yes?)

DAMMIT. I'M HUNGRY.

schizophrenicroom 02.21.2015 10:55 AM

ooh, I was at trader joes yesterday but can't argue against going back again today. I got this garlic naan and an awesome feta spread too.

I'm starving all the time. but I'm working out more lately to get in shape to get back to roller derby.

i wonder why you're starving all the time. do you eat sugar? maybe too much refined starch? either of those will shoot up your insulin and make you hungry again right after. but i don't know.

last week i tried this bodybuilder experiment of eating a small protein-rich meal every 3 hours. it was pretty great actually, as it seemed to keep my energy up steadily, but the problem is that i didn't do *any* workout as i had to do some awful computer shit (i hate working on other people's videos). 630-930-1230-330-630-930 (the last is a small cheese cube, 1 oz). some of those were whey shakes. eg 630 breakfast, 930 snack 1230 lunch 330 snack 630 dinner 930 snack. meals were: eggs w/ oats, chicken w/ vegs, chicken w/ rice. snacks were: granola w/ yogurt, whey shake + peanut butter, 1 oz cheese cube

i can't wait to get back to my peasant work and use muscle again. sitting all day with a problematic computer is fucking depressing.

schizophrenicroom 02.21.2015 03:20 PM

i try to not eat a lot of sugar unless I'm doing a quick reach for some fruit when my blood sugar gets low. I'm hypoglycemic.

yeah, when I don't move enough my whole mood crashes. and eating too much protein makes me grumpy.

schizophrenicroom 02.21.2015 03:20 PM

I would have responded earlier but I'm at this interesting conference. having no signal is rare for me.

why hypoglycemic? that's a symptom of diabetes no?

yeah i didn't eat protein alone-- was with a fat (pb, egg yolks) and/or a carb (oats, rice, vegs). and i certainly didn't eat it in bodybuilder's amounts-- just regular human size.

oh no worries, it's not a live chat. you still at that medieval thing? have fun!

schizophrenicroom 02.21.2015 06:54 PM

it was wicked! there's a party tonight but I have other plans.

my mom became type 1 at like, 26 and I feel like I'm probably headed for that. my blood sugars always ran really low.

oh wow! i didn't know that. you gotta get that checked out.

not sure type 1 is preventable as it's autoimmune-- damn! but keep an eye on it.

anyway, about hunger... maybe add 1 tablespoon of olive oil to your meals? so it sticks to your ribs.

========

i put 1 qt homemade whole fat yogurt with 1cup sour cherries in the blender

oh damn damn damn

so tart and so good

schizophrenicroom 02.22.2015 03:58 PM

yeah, my bday is soon so around then I'm gonna make an appt for both my wisdom tooth and an endocrinologist because I think I have a thyroid problem too.

oohhh, cherries. I had plain Greek yogurt this morning that I mixed pomegranate seeds into and it was delicious. and the yogurt kept me full

!@#$%! 02.22.2015 07:02 PM

1 cup fage yogurt is 20g protein! i like the full fat version.

anyway i made a spinach & feta pizza, turned out great, but madame cussword is out of town and i had to eat it alone. bah!

and i ate the whole thing. how quickly i turn caveman.

schizophrenicroom 02.22.2015 09:20 PM

full fat is where it is. I hate low-fat anything because they just pump it with sugar.

I'd eat that entire pizza. living the bachelor life for the weekend?

!@#$%! 02.22.2015 09:33 PM

the "bachelor life" out in the middle of the sticks sucks. it's like floating in outer space like that poor fucker major tom.

i have enjoyed my day of filth and disarray at some level though. a kind of excessive relaxation. pajamas and disorder. oblivion. and tomorrow i'll get back to my routine like a good citizen---coffee + workboots.

i drank more cherry yogurt. i also made real maraschino cherries like this. it occurred to me i could just drink that [cherry yogurt not the maraschino] all day-- direct from the jar. which i will probably do tomorrow, ha ha.

1 gallon of milk + 1 scoop of plain yogurt = 1 gallon yogurt (needs a cheap thermometer).

Vegetables. . Its Lent yo

schizophrenicroom 02.23.2015 03:04 PM

what'd you give up?

!@#- hah. pajamas and disorder sounds like some weird 90s unrest/velocity girl type lyric. it's 3 pm and i'm still in yoga pants.

this next month i want to try cutting things out and see if that helps my hair issue/skin. this week i'm trying to eat less gluten, had a wrap with scrambled eggs/chorizo/salsa. it was awesome.

!@#$%! 02.23.2015 03:46 PM

eggs poached in spinach and butter, with boiled red potatoes and a shake of feta crumbs. a very late 2nd breakfast ha ha.

well i showered today, and worked at the barn a bit (that was before the shower, eh)

if you have issues with gluten (i think the problem is overinflated but some people do have them) try the exact same thing w/ potatoes instead of in a wrap.

SuchFriendsAreDangerous 02.23.2015 04:41 PM

During Lent Orthodox Christians abstain from consuming animal products
