Here's the list I came up with. I overshot the total but was definitely at all of these gigs. Something doesn't feel right though. I SWEAR something is missing. I'll have to do a little more investigating. I used to keep track of all the dates and venues of every show I'd ever attended by anybody, but that fell by the wayside with old age. ;-)

How many times?? Hmmmmm...let me think

Goo Tour - Tijuana, MX with Mudhoney and Gumball
Dirty Tour (2) - Santa Monica, CA with Cell and Chicago with Royal Trux
Smell the Horse Tour - Chapel Hill, NC with Neil Young and Social D
Lollapalooza '95 - Chicago with Hole, Pavement, etc.
Thousand Leaves Tour - Cincinnati, OH with ???
NYC Ghosts & Flowers - Cincinnati with Pearl Jam
Murray Street Tour (3) - Chicago with Wolf Eyes, Columbus, OH and Cincinnati with Quixotic

I think that's it. Not a bad run so far...

Ripchord 02.20.2007 05:10 PM

Once, Lollapalooza '06.
I'm pretty lame. They've come by me 3 times since Rather Ripped came out, and i wasn't allowed to go see them. But i was allowed to go out to Chicago where i saw them. It's strange.

I have the same average as whorefrost, but mine's eleven times in eleven years. First two gigs were in 1996.
I have seen the sonics more often outside of sonic youth though, about 15 solo/side project gigs.

You have all severely son-ed me on the SY dedication. I've only seen them thrice in my 3 years of sonic hysteria, and from the poll results it looks like they're gonna be in my blood a long while. Will I ever hear Sunday, 'Cross the Breeze, Lee's NYC Ghosts & Flowers, Theresa's Sound World, or Sympathy for the Strawberry live? How long do they tend to wait before revisiting a recent album? 5 years? 10?

Not to gloat, but I have seen all of those songs live...except, alas, 'Cross the Breeze, which would create a boner-inducing spectacle. Some day, maybe.

floatingslowly 02.22.2007 07:56 PM

this is the most shameful thing that I have to admit.

I have NEVER seen Sonic Youth play.

I've listened to them since about 1988 and they are the only band from "back then" that continue to make albums that mean something to me.

as a person with several thousand cd's, records and tapes I have no better honor to pass out than to say that they are my favorite band.

the cruel twisted fates of the universe have prevented me from ever being able to attend even a single show.

I'm going to go cry now. :(

you bastards made me leak my darkest secret!!

Concrete Abutments 02.23.2007 12:54 AM

GLOATING!

GLOATING! I've seen 'cross the breeze! TWICE on the Daydream Nation tour! And all of those others listed also.

The songs I've missed and wish I could hear for godsake are as follows:

Total Trash
Dripping Dream
Sleepin' Around

I think I'm satisfied otherwise. I've even had Mildred Pierce and Death Valley 69!

I saw them once and it was amazing......
They played the 'A Thousand Leaves' release, plus some awesome improv....
It was great, when people shouted to hear Kool Thing, or Teenage Riot.....Thurston replied with, "We wanted to show you guys the new stuff..."
I was NOT DISAPPOINTED.

lisayoung 02.24.2007 10:52 PM

o......will turn to 1 when they get to china in april,i hope

k-krack 02.24.2007 11:09 PM

Once only, unfortunately:(. I hope to see them many more times, though. Set list:
