Jazz for dinner and at least one song by Deee-Lite, when everyone's pissed out of their minds on the dance floor.

"going to the chapel and we're gonna get married..."

congrats Pooks!

Congratulations! I'm knee deep in exactly the same thing, I'll consult my workings so far and get back to you. Knee Deep by Funkadelic isn't a bad place to start though as far as floor fillers go.

no slow songs i think, exept maybe the first dance but after that pure trash.

dont try and be all serious because it just wont work and i hate it when the dj plays only serious stuff.

All the songs from "Full Metal Jacket" o.s.t. (except the original instrumentals) are a good idea, btw. imo. asap. rotfl. And all that stuff.
Congratulations! Yeah.

Oh, and you should have a "private screening" of The Rocky Horror Picture Show for the drunken pervs later that evening.

sonicl 04.11.2007 07:43 AM

Do not allow the DJ to play ANYTHING that has "official" dance moves associated with it, e.g. "The Timewarp", or "Saturday Night" by Whigfield, or anything by Black Lace. Put it in the contract that if he plays anything like that, he will not be paid.

I don't mean he should have the dj play that track to make people dance, but a more trashy, intimate, drunk kind of thing...

nicfit 04.11.2007 07:50 AM

On a side note (not musc-related), if you have enough money to spend, I suggest to rent an "inflatable castle", a BIG one, last time i went to a wedding party I had SO much fun pogoing and bouncing on one of those things!

gmku 04.11.2007 09:15 AM

What's a wedding recetion, mate? Something peculiar to the U.K.?

pokkeherrie 04.11.2007 09:28 AM

Congratulations Pookie.

I'd suggest to tank up everyone on alcohol before blasting out Technotronic and Paul Hardcastle, but once you've done that then they're absolute winners...

also the Rocksteady Crew's "Hey You!"
(come on, who doesn't want to see 35-40 year olds doing breakdance moves on the floor?)

sonicl 04.11.2007 09:31 AM

Betty Boo - "Doin' the Do"... Oooh, yeah.

nicfit 04.11.2007 09:37 AM

Ella Fitzgerald's "Too Darn Hot" to start the dances.

Dead-Air 04.11.2007 09:39 AM

We used the undeniably cheesy but very sweet Sun Ra tune (with rare vocal) "Dreams Come True" at the end of our ceremony.

At the reception we'd brought stacks of cds and asked a friend to run the music, but we forgot all about music when everybody got to talking, and never played a one!

Jt 04.11.2007 10:53 AM

I'm kind of disappointed Eno hasn't put out Music For Weddings yet.

Go with your own headphones.
"La Boum" style http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0082100/

!@#$%! 04.11.2007 12:42 PM

i've been listening to white magic & they make some wonderfully mellow music-- i don't have track names yet but avoid "katie cruel" as it's a bit gloomy for a wedding.
