Yeah, that's right. Every person with a tattoo is some kind of deluded person who thinks it's "radical" and they all get tattoos with the same motivation in mind. Whatever. I really don't think anybody thinks tattoos are all that much about "individuality" anymore. Some people have them and some people don't. Just because there are a lot of horrible tattoos on morons doesn't mean that good tattoos that are well-done and thoroughly considered can't look great. It's just personal preference. As for "purchased individuality," it still beats a pair of fucking dockers and a polo shirt. ALL outer expressions of personal style are purchased, unless you weave your own fabric, make your own clothes and cut your own hair.
