I wish folks here in North America would (re)discover Slade. Slade Alive (1972) is still one of my all-time favourite live albums--it's definitely one of the rowdiest from that era. I really should get a new copy, though, my old LP with the gatefold sleeve--which I picked up third-hand in a swap when I was in 5th grade in 1979-'80--is really on its last legs....

Lou for the lyrics/poetry; Iggy for the Reed-meets-Morrison voice and similar stage persona; Bowie for the ability to rip off all his heroes effectively and be man enough to admit it.

Bowie and Reed are the top two for me.

Probably Bowie over Reed in terms of solo work. If it was say The VU vs Bowie, the former would definitely get it.
