spiderland is probably the best example of an album that absolutely fucks you up when you're in the mood for it.

copper 05.24.2008 05:03 PM

^ It doesn't fuck me up at all. I feel quite happy after hearing it, maybe its because its so mind-blowingly good that every time i listen to it i'm left speechless.

for me it got to the point of being just so much more than an album, its just something really really special.

whorefrost 05.24.2008 07:45 PM

bought this record about 6 years ago
probably listened to it about 6 times total...
my reactions have ranged from overrated to fairly absorbing, if slightly staid and flawed

think it's about due another spin though

Rob Instigator 05.25.2008 09:39 AM

I read that it was albini talking in most of the songs though

wrong info?

copper 05.25.2008 09:45 AM

wrong info maybe?

albini had nothing to do with spiderland, i think. he's always saying how he really wanted to be involved.

Rob Instigator 05.25.2008 10:02 AM

it's sold just over 50 thousand copies

one tenth of the way to GOLD!

Derek 05.25.2008 10:36 AM

Let's just hope they reach that in this lifetime!

copper 05.25.2008 10:42 AM

lol, a gold disc of spiderland.

that would be pimpin.

Derek 05.25.2008 11:05 AM

They could probably reach it if they keep playing shows.

copper 05.25.2008 04:20 PM

no, they wouldn't.

This Is Not Here 05.25.2008 04:43 PM

Didn't Slint premier new material at their Don't Look Back Spiderland shows, or at least a new song? Does this mean a new release could be on the way?

Amusing (not very) little Slint-related story for you now, I was watching 120 Minutes once and it was being 'curated' by a member of Pavement, I beleive it was Mark Ibold. I think it was to do with the re-release of Wowee Zowee. Anyway, as his video selections came on some text would run across the screen explaining why he liked the video. On a P.J. Harvey video he joked:

"You know, I heard PJ Harvey wrote to Slint about that female vocalist position. They didn't get back to her."

Cruel really, but it did make me chortle.

atsonicpark 08.05.2008 03:20 AM

for acousticrocks :)

acousticrock87 08.05.2008 03:34 AM

Awesome. Thanks. I'm listening to Spiderland right now. It's definitely my kind of thing; not sure why I've never heard them before. It reminds me of Jandek and GY!BE, both of whom I love.

acousticrock87 08.05.2008 03:44 AM

I'm on the last track right now. Fuck this is a great CD. Especially the second half. Washer is I think my favorite track.

EDIT: Barely 80 minutes after first hearing them, I'm through their whole discography. Sad. I loved Tweez and the EP, too.

Derek 08.05.2008 04:40 AM

yep

Spiderland is definitely in my top 10

atsonicpark 08.05.2008 05:35 AM

Glad you liked, acousticrocks.

atsonicpark 11.19.2008 03:24 PM

I am proud of myself, as I can now play Spiderland from beginning to end on guitar. I don't totally have some of the rhythms on Nosferatu Man down yet but I will soon. Anyway, I want to start a Slint tribute band called Wet Sneeze Drip Lad (which is an anagram for "tweez" and "Spiderland").
