It's not really romantic, and it's not at all funny. You should see it though. |
All Daniel Clowes work is fantastic.
![]() ![]() ![]() Ghost World is just perfect. Ice Haven is cute, Like a Velvet Glove Cast in Iron is strange and silly and i think he was on drugs when he wrote it. David Boring is a lot like Ghost World and Like a velvet glove. 20th century 8 ball is lots of short stories, but not as good as Ice Haven. Adrian Tomine's Optic Nerve series is fantastic too, and he has pretty much exactly the same drawing style to Daniel. |
Had a look at it in the store, loved the cover very much, but thought it had to be a comic for girls :)
|
nooooooooooo, it's for anybody. If you are still unsure then get Ice Haven or David Boring by dan clowes.
David Boring is a mans comic. |
skull, have you read love & rockets?
|
nope. Is it any good?

I remember Ghost Writer.
|
blah. it's merely okay, isn't it? scarlett is hot. buscemi is the man. thora annoys me. the only funny part is when thora throws the dollar bills and the guy goes, "oh my god that was so PUNK." meh. just kinda a nothing film.

i looooove it

Ghost World is one of the best movies I've ever seen, and I still haven't been able to read the damn book!!!:( The comic store never has it, and I've never seen it at my work... Maybe I'll order it from work??? Anyways, Like a Velvet Glove... is a fucking rad book... just go read it. |
match point was a laughable crime and punishment ripoff. only good for some boner inducing scarlett johansson scenes.
i watched ghost world with my friend a while ago, liked it quite a bit. |
I love the movie but the comic book is even better.
|
Surprise, I don't like generic garbage that every "indie" kid pretends to love? What's next, you guys are going to try to tell me Requiem for a Dream and Donnie Darko are good (hint: they're not)?
It's not like I hate shit just because it's popular; I hate shit because it sucks. I love plenty of popular films; the problem is, I watch 300+ movies a year (I try to watch a new movie every night if I can) so I'm not so taken aback by stuff like Ghost World. It's... okay. You know? It's just one of those movies. It's just okay. Nothing special but clearly people who don't know any better sing its praises for no apparent reason. Though I do love "THAT'S SO PUNK!" And I did dig the comic or book or whatever (maybe the book was a collection of comics).. my friend's girlfriend had a copy.. I thought it was amusing. The film just didn't do anything for me. Just kinda.. nothing. If you want to see a really good movie, go rent Pinnochio 964. |
OH and I just noticed (didn't bother to read the replies before) the mention of Love and Rockets.
My favorite comic series ever. I'd reccomend this, as well: http://www.indyworld.com/tp/ |
I rented this thinking it would appeal to me, but it didnt. Its supposed to be this great indie flick classic but I dont thin its that good. Thora Birch's character comes off as a bitch at times. I hate her and her friends "we're so cool we're gonna point out how lame everyone else is attitude" that is really grating. The relationship between buscemi and birch was interesting but it wasn't fantastic or anything. I expected more from this, the characters besides buscemi come off as cold.
|
yeah exactly.
the film seems to have something of an identity crisis; it talks and talks and talks and never says anything. like a lot of "indie" films. |

Finally, name-drop, name-drop, name-drop. |
the only part of the movie i liked is when she spots the black person stereotype poster on the guy's apartment.
i've already posted my feelings towards the rest of the movie. |
So people who love the comic aren't fans of the movie? They can't like/love both? Thora and Steve were so perfectly cast in that movie.
