if you're band isn't objectively fucking amazing (or you're Mark E. Smith) you don't have the right to act like an arrogant prick in interviews... they haven't earned that yet..

One complaint:

On Cryptograms, they feel the need to establish that they are a stoner band by having the lighter going off and the inhaling sound at the beginning of 'Spring Hall Convert', its not like we don't get that you smoke pot.

Its painfully obvious in interviews where the singer talks about 'lyrics bleeding into the music' as being something that turns him on, and its just painfully obvious that its also just a masking of his stoner lyrics which will never be 'inpenetrable' no matter how barried in the mix they are -- they are still boring stoner lyrics at times.

Plus the drummer talks about how he works at american apparel so it sort of seals the whole deal for me as this band coming across as more scenester then sincere.

I've heard mixed reviews on this one and I'm still asking myself if I should buy it or not.

I'm dying to hear it. I dnt really care about the hip factor or whatever. I really, really like the band. And I loved the Atlas Sound album from earlier this year.

I liked Cryptograms quite a bit. I'm looking forward to hearing the new one.

Dont. Dont, dont, dont believe the hype. 'agoraphobia' is a decent enough song, the title track and 'nothing ever happens' are sorta fun to listen to but the rest is straight garbage. the singer said it himself. "it's for kids just getting over my chemical romance."

Have both cryptograms and the EP. I bought crypograms, thinking this was something I´d really enjoy, (after all, it´s on kranky), but found it to be quite boring. I don´t know, it just seems so directionless. But I really like the flourucent grey EP. Haven´t heard the new one yet.

I listened to the album yesterday, I think it was really good. I'll buy it today

I'm just saying this... Deerhunter are not about to "save rock n roll" or any shit like that. They are not revolutionary. They're not even doing something new or unheard of. But they are good. And they are interesting. And they are willing to take some chances. I also respect the warts-n-all approach. Always have. Plus, I just really loved CRYPTOGRAMS. Regardless of what the press or hipsters said about that record, the bottom line is that I JUST KEPT ON LISTENING TO IT over and over. And that is the real test in my book. I still love it.

Sure, nothing wrong with that. It's a pretty good record.

It hits the spot. Still prefer the Fluorescent Grey EP. Bradford intrigues me, even if he's been twattish in the past.
