Seriously though, let's keep Randy comments out of the book club.

HERE, HERE. I'll translate page by page! And post it all here.

Well shit, I'll have go and buy/check out a copy tomorrow.

Are we setting a deadline to finish the book?

Glice 05.25.2006 06:40 PM

Right. I agree with everything that has happened so far. I'm going to pick up the first copy of the book I find and lie if I can't get the version everyone else is reading. In fact, I might read a summary and bullshit everyone into thinking I read it.

Nah, just kidding, I'll have it finished in a week.

We'll probably take a slightly slower pace.

When I get my hands on it, I'll decide on a pace. Probably try to finish in a month or so, meeting once a week.

I read the Fitzgerald translation too, and I'm also on that bandwagon that suspects two different authors.

If you can overlook the comparative dryness of the Iliad, it still tells a damn good story, and the background information it provides makes The Odyssey that much more enjoyable. I read The Iliad after The Odyssey, re-read The Odyssey, and found it had much more fluidity.

Those poems are more reasons why I dig Greek and Roman historical accounts. They're really just nonfiction soap operas, and entertaining as all hell to read.

the odyssey is more entertaining and you can read it as a kid you can read it as a grownup and its fucking great.

currently i am trapped in circe's island and all my crew has been turned into pigs and i can't get home-- yes, those funky greek myths apply even today.

anyway however that, the illiad is much more SUBLIME. you have to skip the endless repetitions, meant to be sung-- the fucking glory of those motherfuckers-- what a way to live and die-- compared to them, our century is populated by worms.

!@#$%! 05.26.2006 07:16 PM

Glory? If you define such as gluttony, narcissism, territorialism, hedonism, lecherousness, vanity, and depravity.

Which I do. I'm just sayin'.

!@#$%! 05.26.2006 07:24 PM
