God yeah, a picture disb. flippin hell. I probably do. It's gonna be in a box somewhere. Shit I wanna hear that now.

demonrail666 07.22.2008 07:06 PM

Ignore the silly bugger dancing, and wallow in the sheer brilliance that is Fowley.

Sonic Youth 37 07.22.2008 07:07 PM

Cherry Bomb is a damn fine song.

MellySingsDoom 07.22.2008 07:07 PM

That's when I first found out about Kim Fowley. You played me "No Pussyfooting" at 16RPM as well...I recall being really hungover that day, and after playing that, I was really invigorated again - such a good album to hear in a "wrong" context.

demonrail666 07.22.2008 07:10 PM

And this may come as a bit of a surprise to some.

MellySingsDoom 07.22.2008 07:36 PM

I just want to say that the Peaches song that is produced by Joan Jett is truly danceable and groovy. Man, it's good stuff.

Cantankerous 07.22.2008 07:38 PM

singing cherry bomb is so much fun

MellySingsDoom 07.22.2008 07:43 PM

"I'm a Ch-Ch-Ch-Ch-Ch-ch-Cherry BOMB!"

You be most right, Cantanky.

demonrail666 07.22.2008 07:43 PM

Just making sure, but we are all aware of the supposed Joan Jet - Carmen Electra 'friendship', are we not?

MellySingsDoom 07.22.2008 07:46 PM

^^Nope - if J Jett's lesbian, that makes me love her even more. Carmen Electra's just a fake-boobied bimbo to me [/end pointless supposition]

demonrail666 07.22.2008 07:47 PM

There's one of those spoken word bits on one of the tracks off, I think, their first album where they're acting as prostitutes. It's one of the most, cynical immoral and yet truly brilliant things in all of Rockdom

Yeah, they're apparantly an item.

Cantankerous 07.22.2008 07:52 PM

i heard about that

well, more power to them. i would sleep with carmen electra. shit, i would sleep with joan jett!

kim fowley is a crazy fuck

but he did write bubblegum!

MellySingsDoom 07.22.2008 07:57 PM

I wouldn't sleep with Joan Jett per se, but I'd love to go trawling the best gay clubs in LA with her - we'd rip up the joint, no messin'. You'd be invited, of course, as the Total NYC Rock! element - every party needs that.

demonrail666 07.22.2008 08:02 PM

She is meant to be a bit of an animal by all accounts. sounds like a plan

MellySingsDoom 07.22.2008 08:03 PM

^^^Ok, demon, next year then?

Moshe mentioned 'em in Jan. '07, and Dead-Air in July that year.

Funny though how when I made an in memoriam thread (as Intellivision...one of the Intellivision threads that didn't get deleted) for drummer Sandy West in October '06 there was only one mock-reply from 'marras and one sincere reply from toxic johnny.

That's right, only one person gave a shit enough to post a "RIP" message for Sandy West, folks.

See for yourselves:
The Runaways drummer, Sandy West, dies at 47

I have two of their bootlegs:
The Runaways
7/19/76 The Agora Cleveland sbd
12/01/78 The Palladium Hollywood

Glad to see some other people rocking out to them though.
Now, if you please, go and download an amazing rock 'n' roll extravaganza from NYC '82 at the 320 Club of Joan Jett and the Blackhearts. The boot is "Rebel Rebel" and there are a number of excellent cover tunes performed. I cannot be bothered to put it up as lossless. Here it is in track-by-track mp3 from licorice pizza blog.

Do not delay. Prove to me that you are not a hopeless lamer. Do it now and rock out, preferably at loud volume, shortly thereafter.
They do three songs The Runaways used to do, "Wait For Me," "Black Leather," and the epic "I Love Playin' with Fire," and they execute them with a vengeance. The audience sings along in glorious parts and the version on this one of the fantastic Gary Glitter tune "Do You Wanna Touch Me? (Oh Yeah)" is the best I've ever heard. Love that barre pattern! There's a really good version of Tommy James & The Shondells' immortal classic "Crimson & Clover" too. Love that song! Go ahead and listen to a track or two with your computer speakers, but it's massive on a real system.
