Nice! I see that I'm not the only one lining out to a guitar amp. My stereo speakers are terrible, and my guitar amp actually produces much nicer sound than the speakers. I really need the right equipment, but what I have works for now.

Next Paycheque:
some Sun Ra
Rather Ripped
and one of these:

My dad's got a shitload of old vinyl records in the basement. Unfortunately, the payer is broken and needs a new needle (we think)

LittlePuppetBoy 06.06.2006 12:36 PM

Is it true about the better sound quality than CD's ?

Savage Clone 06.06.2006 12:51 PM

If you have a good stereo and you take good care of your records, this is true.

golden child 06.06.2006 03:22 PM

by no means should you think you HAVE to pay over $100 dollars for a turntable cause you most fucking defiantly DO NOT have to.

and invest in a cheap reciever PLEASE, fucking guitar amp?!

Alex's Trip 06.06.2006 05:36 PM

What exactly would I need if I were to buy one?

A Turntable
Stylus (or needle)
An amplifier / Mixer
Anything that outputs sound (speakers, guitar amp, etc...)

golden child 06.06.2006 05:54 PM

some mixers work but still nothing to a device that is made for a phonograph.

typically if you buy a turntable it will already have a stylus, but you may have to buy one esspecially later on if you fuck it up trying to be a DJ.
i was at walmart the other day and they have stereo recievers for 50 bucks that are good. they have all the goods and sometimes even come with speakers for the whole home entertainment experience. if not hook up some speakers. i just have mine plugged into a cheap preamp which is then plugged into my computer and then my computer goes into my kickass sound system (which only cost 25 dollars at walmart, its cheap to be kickass man!)

cds have their place, but whatever.

SonikJesus 06.07.2006 12:25 AM

White Light/ White Heat is my favorite Velvet album. Sister Ray is so fucking awesome! I love that song so much.

LittlePuppetBoy 06.07.2006 12:52 PM

I think we still have the speakers for my dad's somewhere. But the stylus is busted.

You have White Light/White Heat on vinyl?! Crap. I'm jealous. Is that an old copy or a recent reissue?

Inhuman 06.07.2006 04:24 PM

haha, just a recent copy. The store I got it at is pretty sweet though, they had a vinyl signed by iggy pop

gmku 06.08.2006 08:58 AM

Serious fan of both vinyl and the VU, I'm still jealous. I finally settled for a CD copy a while ago coz I couldn't find the vinyl, except for some ripoff antique shop that wanted 60 bucks for an old beat-up copy. Gimme a break.

I'd be very happy with a recent reissue. Probably happier, actually, since the vinyl no doubt would be in better shape than an old copy.

There's 2 limited edition VU vinyl's at a record store close to my place, I'll check them out for you and if you're interested I can probably send em. One of them's a live record, and I don't know about the other
