I really like it. but I can't see it winning axl any new fans

releasing a album after 15 years wait is better than never releasing an album at all
|
Decent album. Has its moments.

Listened to it twice now. There are some really good songs on this. WAAAAAY too long, of course... not something I'd probably listen to ever again, but meh.. it wasn't bad. A shocking amount of creative arrangements... perhaps too creative (what's with the cheesy overprocessed vocals, pianos, and strings?.. and all the samples?). Lots of things to like on the record, honestly. It's not awful... just overlong, overproduced, and has too many dull tracks in comparison to the great ones.
But really.. The second track in particular has some fucking awesome shit on it! THat guitar solo is insane! The whole thing is hilariously overproduced and Axl's vocals are terrible but musically it's actually creative and... sometimes even great. At its worst, its still mostly listenable. |
I really appreciate how overblown and ridiculous the whole thing is.
The lead guitar work on some of the tracks is really great. "There Was a Time" is crazy! There's all kinds of weird, creative shit going on there. |
Someone more educated than me (Glice?), tell me what a "Riad N' the Bedouins" is...

a fucking sick song! Some of the album is horrendous, but there are about 5 or 6 songs that are pure Gunners gold, even though its pretty OTT Sorry is like a bluesy No Quarter by Zepplin verse with a total alice in Chains chorus Better is a sweet track, apart from the pop intro. Quality chorus. Catcher In The Rye - i swear if this song had just a little less unnecesary backing tracks it'd be one of my all time classic gunners ballads Raid n the bedouins - classic gunners rocker - nothing wrong with this one! IRS - good rocker too Street of Dreams - melodramatic as hell! but it is gnr after all...love it. well its a hell of a lot better than velvet revolver... |
Sorry has a vocal that has a vocal that sounds like it was done by the Count from Seseme Street

maybe you can check out RECS OF THE FLESH, and help us redeem your self. maybe. www.myspace.com/recordingsoftheflesh |
Appetite was a great album but more as an idea than anything else, and subsequent interest in GnR has largely accepted this by focusing more on their story (which in rock terms is a pretty fascinating one) than their music. Chinese Democracy is an interesting 'afterword' to that story, but musically it's as irrelevant as they ever were. So Don't buy Chinese Democracy, buy Stephen Davis' new book 'Watch You Bleed: the "saga" of Guns N Roses' instead. It's far more fascinating than anything the band ever produced themselves. And I'm saying this as someone who's a GnR fan.
