I do play stuff from a band's myspace or other site if that's the only way to get it. I'm increasingly doing that, as the net is where music is going after all (hell, I have way more listeners by stream and download than I do on the radio, at least that's my suspicion). Still, I know if I was the person in the music director's office we'd have 2/3s of that list on cds in the studio ready to play.

pokkeherrie 12.12.2008 10:06 PM

I think I've heard 9 albums from the list, but except for maybe The Hospitals they wouldn't end up in a pokkeherrie's XX records of the year list. The other names that I'm familiar with don't give me the idea that I should go listen to them right away either, but I will check on some of the unfamiliar ones.

Oh well, I guess The Bug is better than Burial (who topped last year's list if I remember well?)... but that doesn't say much.

sarramkrop 12.13.2008 09:38 AM

Seriously though, this is the best list of records The Wire came up with since I remember last buying a copy of the magazine. Including Hercules & Love affair is pretty special for me, as this record has been one of the best to come out of what even the walls know by now as the 'gay scene' They were the only thing I watched on tv this year (i hardly ever watch tv), and made me re-think about paying attention to lyrics again, which are spot on about so many things. You have to witness the reaction on dancefloor to 'blind' to really understand why it's such a great tune.

Also, New York is cool again (if you ever doubted that), so many cool things coming out of it. Don't start a whole hatred-thing about being a hipster etc, or I'll lash out on the difference and history between fashion-victims and hipsters, yeah?

I'm so out of it this year. I don't think I've bought a single 2008 album aside from Radiohead. All my purchases have been reissues.

I'd love to go to see Electric Wizard tonight but I am too crunchgaze, the scene that celebrated its own bank statements.

*insert sad face*

I'll listen to Maureen Tucker playing dirt-poor garage rock instead.

Yeah, it's not my favorite Ryoji album but it's awesome. I think "Dataplex" is my favorite.

ok i downloaded this... i love the dubstep/bass part of the production... its the vocals which sound cheesy/dated to me... except for Poison Dart so far. that track is fire. i like it, but "Judgement", the last track, really doesn't do it for me... i'm going through the rest now...

I never said quaristice was my favorite, just like it more than confield. My favorite probably fluctuates between Amber, lp5 and the anti-ep Really, I love all of their records though.

It is a 3CD anthology of cut-up tape pieces. Bunch of rare and unpublished material.

batreleaser 12.17.2008 07:24 PM

fleet foxes is everything wrong with music right now
