I find it charming that you have absolutely no tolerance for the more commercial side of pompous nonsense. I'm pretty sure I've got a few Chris Rea/ Meatloaf albums that would bring you out in hives. I think the three bands mentioned above are entirely preposterous piffle, but that's no reason for me not to enjoy them - and enjoy them I do. I can only think of three bands off the top of my head that make me throw things across the room in anger - Pavement, Penduluum and G!YBE. The first because the lyrics just infuriate me in their rubbishness, the second because it's the very worst of commercial dance music (worse still than the pop pastiches done by Girls Aloud, because their follies in DnB never were credible) and the third because it's genuinely very dull music exalted in reverb by cocks. Oh, Phish are the shittest idea, delivered shitly (which is still shit, not a double-negative thing). Zappa is the musical equivalent of a sarcastic 13-year-old. Funnily enough, u2 or Coldplay or Keane or whatever just pass me by. If I thought about it, I'd find them irritating, but I can block that sort of thing out. Yeaaaaah. |
If there is a band I "hate" (more accurately: can't stand), then it's usually someone who has a big hit song that I dislike intensely, but keep hearing everywhere/can't seem to avoid.

wow at least half of those are actually good and when it comes to bright eyes, tool, and nas, they are great. are you sure with bright eyes you're not just against his image? |
With Bright Eyes, it's the voice.
God does that voice bug me. However, Moldy Peaches (and related solo projects) are my Shit Barometer. Yeah, there are "worse" bands out there, but I have come into more contact via cultural osmosis with this one, and I honestly cannot believe anyone likes that music. Hacks. |

Bright Eyes was absolutely brilliant when I was hammered 8 years or so ago, and I've not heard a note of his since. Moldy Peaches are one of those bands that say more about a fan's lack of personality than anything else. Much like Goldie Lookin' Chain. But this is getting into the category of 'most hateful fans', which is always won by old-school Manic Street Preachers' fans. |

Nickelback.
There are many bands I don't like, but I hate none as much as I do Nickelback. |
i'd blocked nickelback out my mind entirely until i read your post, afterthefact.

Screaming Trees

I really can't think of a band that I hate. I can always find at least one song, by a group, that I like. Though there is some mainstream rap that really irritates my ears.

Dave Matthews!

Pearl Jam are okay. For the most part, I find then unappealing, but they do have some good songs. And I could see why people like them, but personally, they do not do much for me. |

i don't think i have tolerance for pompous anything. as much as i dislike the music the music of meatloaf it doesn't wind me up as much as the stuff i mentioned, it's just far too daft, although i've only heard a couple of his hits. chris rea i don't have a clue about. anyway, you have meatloaf records, does your ironic taste know no bounds? |
![]() Probably this lame-ass prog nerd band. There's a gang of lesbians on my english course and this band is all they talk about, and they're always trying to convert those non-listeners. They all have matching tattoos, as well. Fuck that. Everything I've heard by them is everything that is wrong with music. |
