I've talked to sonic youth after shows and had a few autographs happen. I would scan and post them if it weren't so late right now.

Once, Thurston was in Minneapolis for a local noise fest. He was playing in the Dream Action Unit. Jim O'Rourke was there too. My friend had a work hat, and he had Thurston sign the bill! It was super cool. T.Moore drew a little PR style suit guy, like the old smash the RIAA logo. I think my friend kept wearing the hat to work though, and it faded and weathered pretty good.

(edit- hey i found it!)

Another time, I talked to Kim after she performed Yoko Onos "Cut Piece" at the Walker art center. I totally told her how the sun exploding potentially affects the energetic creativity of sound producers. Gosh, that was bold. I think I told Wayne Coyne something like that once too. Haha, I'm so risky. ANYWAY, I got Kims autograph on SRY 5, the one with DJ Olive and Ikue Mori. It was awesome! She too, drew a little figurine. Nothing to elaborate, but personable and artistic. Something to tresure.

So that's some of my autograph stories. PEACE.

(edit.. I have found this too! A most treasured item of my fragile life. Punks Suing Punks EP!)

I've met them three times (well, only once as a full band), and they're very easy going and polite with. Thurston is extremely friendly... believe it or not, I've been to shows where he's walked through the crowd and nobody (but me) has recognized him. Sounds crazy, right? It's true. I met him, surrounded by SY fans, at an SY show, about an hour before the band came on, and nobody even noticed.

But to the point, I think Thurston at least would be down fog autographs. Kim too probably, and I think Lee and Steve are a little more reserved, but would still be happy and willing.

I've never asked them for an autograph. Just to shake hands and share a few words.

I've got Lee's autograph. Also, a signed copy of Thurston's "Alabama Wildman", except it's addressed to a "Kathleen".

"Kathleen

My Hero

-Thurston"

Was cheaper than one of the first few hundred copies with his sig.

Only one I ever met was Lee, and it was VERY brief. I shook his hand and ran off.

Heh. it was a few years ago. He was standing near the merch booth before the show, looking busy. I just ran up and said something like "Hey Lee, I just wanna shake yr hand". He was like "OK", shook my hand, and I ran off. that was quite literally it. Still cool, though. He's one of my favorite gee-tar players.
