Seriously though, I'm sorry that you don't have any sense of culture but... I'd be fucking destroyed by the pointies (Tauntonites) for my apparent poshing of the wesscunnry.

are u saying taunton is THE most local place?
my old neighbour was a farmer who was nearly unintelligible most of the time but he would make his accent worse on purpose if he had to talk to anyone new

Glice 09.26.2009 05:12 AM

I'm saying that people in Taunton are inbred. Not as bad as Shepton or Midsomer Norton, but they're definitely inbred.

Most regional accents do the thing of amending their accent depending on audience. I noticed just last night at a kiddy with a broad Hartcliffe accent suddenly became much more legible while trying to chat up some broad.

pbradley 09.26.2009 05:21 AM

A girl from London who was visiting a friend of mine mentioned that I have a slightly different accent than the rest of the people at the party. I had to take her word for it but I'm a typical homebody American so there was little I could have adopted from elsewhere. I suppose the variety of accents in England give the people a far more sensitive ear for variation than myself. Freaks.

Oh. You're a proper pointy. Fair enough.

I think the thing is that Tauntonites hate Westonites and vice-versa. Having said that, we're in the right cricketing area.

You're probably the only person on this board other than me that knows what a hedger is. Mint. In fact, depending on your age, I expect you and I share mates. I'd be astonished if you didn't know someone I do.

I was chatting to a kiddy from Chard earlier. True story. But then, I was also chatting to the masses of Weston earlier. Weston FTW.

yeah proper job, although not especially proud just accepting of the fact that i live here really. have not heard of this hating westonites thing, i just thought all local people hate anything thats more than 5 miles away cos its likely to be a bit peculiar.

talking to someone from chard eh, has he found out how to escape yet?

Lurker 09.27.2009 01:06 PM

Ah Exmoor is lovely. Has some really nice villages on the coast too. I'm more of a fan of Dartmoor though.

sonicpixie 09.27.2009 01:17 PM
