I think there is a massive jump from Confusion is Sex/Kill yr Idols to Bad Moon Rising. I like both the albums a lot but Bad Moon Rising is really dark and creative, loads of diffrent techniques are used and there are loads of noises interwoven on each track, I think it's a total masterpiece.

Yeah I agree I think that their is a big difference between the two albums and bmr is definitely a creative leap from the band

Listening to it now. I didn't mention Ghost Bitch, it's a good song, even if it starts out pretty slow.

I mean, in person. I have several bootlegs where they play it, as well as 1991: The Year Punk Broke. |
Great album I love the intro.

hey there,
this album rocks. Probably my favourite album - its just got an awesome 80's feeling all over it. One of my favourite moments is that riff in Justice is Might - such a godly riff! When i hear it I think of freedom in the 80's! And yeah, I fully agree with people about the awesome cover art - it really gives your mind a strong reference point for the mood of the album. Also i seem to recall reading in the Sonic Youth book that they tried to get a general theme of Americana across in this album, something that both the cover and music references. I definitely get a kind of US rock music circa 1960's buzz in Intro and Brave Men Run. I also get a similar buzz in The Empty Page during that guitar break after the noise solo - reminds of the Bryds or something?? cheers, Mike |
i loved it at first listen. my fav. would be brave me run, society is a hole, death valley of course and all noisy parts connecting all the tracks. very interesting album, different to first one, which is more aggressive. this one is more stretched out and timescale is slowed down.

justice is might was the first sy song i had ever listened to. so of it kind of grew on me. but i really like flower. whenever i hear it i just zone out and listen. it's very calming but always startles you a little when she yells out fuck!

The version of DV69 that's on BMR is nowhere near as good as the Irridesence 7" version, which would have fit on BMR much better.

I bought this album the day after seeing Sonic Youth for the first time. My girlfriend and I popped it in after making a trip to Newbury Comics, sat their in silence while it played... and were both really disappointed that it eventually ended. It might be the first album I've ever heard that I could truly describe as "mesmerizing." Just so haunting and eerie and perfect.
She hit "play" again immediately, though. And I knew I had found a keeper (she's since become my fiancee). |
Haha that's pretty awesome. I still don't have this CD. I'm going to get it as soon as I can. But I think maybe now I'll wait til the right time, after that story.

yeah, I cant find the album locally, i have a live show from the bmr tour though that keeps me patient and looking
|
Society is a hole which makes me lie to my friends...
I don't like the whole album but it is surely marvelous. I miss that dissonance in nowadays sonic youth. |

i jsut bought it an hour agoo! |
"Lay off my brother"- I'm Insane is my fav beyond what were obviously the best when I first heard it, like DV69, Halloween, Flower, and the first 3 songs (Intro, Brave Men Run, Society is a Hole?)
When the intro goes from pretty to freak out, I remember my brother playing it for me and he just cranked my car stereo to 11...it was killer!!! |
