ok, only read te first couple of posts but to answer the topic i say yeas, do relisten. mbv rewards repeated lisens. i guess there is an age gap here too. mbv last album loveless is now 15 years old (fuck, i remember well buyng it on release day) and anyone who i have given it to who are 5 or 10 years younger than me dont get it on the first listen.
trust me on this. mbv are worth the effort............ |

what swings it forloveless for me is that it contains sometimes... possibly the most beautiful song ever written by anyone, anywhere, ever....... |

It's the album's best, just like "Teen Age Riot", the simplest and most repetitive track on DN, is the best. They're both simple expressions of recognizable feelings. "Sometimes" seems to be repeating the same old sound over and over again and at the same tempo, but there's a subtle shift in tempo that occurs in the middle of it (you can hear it taking off) that's really beautiful, especially when Bilinda starts oooing. |
its one of the few songs that actually moves me......
again, mbv do reward repeated listens. i know what diesel means about them not being nirvana......... i get that from people when i try to get them into em. "theyre not heavy enough..." kinda buzz, the majority have come back to me and say that they now love mbv............ their new album is seemingly out this year too!!!!!!:D |

Here's a link to Kevin Shields talking about some songs for Wire Magazine - http://www.mybloodyvalentine.net/smf...php?topic=57.0. Especially read what he says about Blind Willie Johnson's "Dark was the Night" [click the 3rd pic or just click this - http://img391.imageshack.us/my.php?image=wire31gc.jpg]. I think we've found the inspiration for "Sometimes", if not the whole album. |

Hmmm. I have to get the new Magnet issue. I'm not holding my breath. All I can say is Thank you Sofia Coppola and thank you to the person who introduced her to the group and so and on and so on. |
maybe kevin is happy hanging around with primal scream.......
|
Loveless is still one of the CDs that, after having had it for like 7 years, I can always put in on my stereo and enjoy it as much as then in the past.
The same with Isn't anything. Each one of them has its special vibe. But they both fucking rock. I'm gonna play Loveless right now. |
From the looks of this topic, I have to get my hands on a copy of Isn't Anything.
Loveless is one of my favorite cds ever. |

I don't think I've ever listened to it under those conditions, but you might be right. |
Is it me or most of the people who are posting on this thread haven't heard or formed an opinion when the band were still about?Just sayin'.
|
looking at the average age of the board posters i guess most people don't... i didn't get to hear them until much later.
but what does that matter for someone's opinion? |
MBV rocks. Maybe Loveless is too hard to listen to. Try something a little easier and then move on to Loveless. Try this.

Hahaha. Fools.
Loveless and especially Isn't Anything (I know I'm the only one to say that, but...) are AMAZING. |
grab the 4 creation eps as well... you made me realise, feed me..., glider (both the 4 tracker and the andy weatherall remix with the full length version of glider), and tremelo..... perfect accomanyment to the 2 creation abums....
mbv virgins avoid this is your bloody valentine album, its muck! |
btw, i met kevin sheilds in dublin at a sebadoh gig about 10 years ago. nice guy, offered to buy him a pint and he refused saying that "i dont have to do that" so he bought me one and disappearedinto the dark sections of th seated area
|
You are a glorious man for that.
|
Loveless is as good as it gets. Perfect. Gorgeous, gorgeous songs. I too am baffled at how some can find it boring or to be "nothing special". Pop music just doesn't get any better than that.
I'm also surprised about the lack of recognition for the Glider and Tremolo EPs. |
