Thanks dude, I appreciate the quick answer. I'm going to sign up for it right now.

Because all of these bastards have nothing but good things to say and waiting another month to hear it will be torture.

duderanchnurse 04.28.2009 01:45 PM

i expect john golden masterings to have ruined some of the dynamics and brought these mellow sounds to murray/nurse/rather ripped
with calbi back, doesn't it seem obvious?

marleypumpkin 04.28.2009 01:46 PM

Anybody else tell Mark having a key role in Poison Arrow? Almost Pavement like,

vulva 04.28.2009 01:52 PM

Massage The History REALLY reminds me of I Love You Golden Blue.

summer 04.28.2009 01:55 PM

If this album ACTUALLY is similar to A Thousand Leaves then I'm excited, though everyone dissing Rather Ripped sort of pisses me off. How is it similar to ATL though, since that's my #1 favorite?

vulva 04.28.2009 01:59 PM

I don't find it similar to ATL at all. I still maintain that it feels like Sonic Nurse 2.0

summer 04.28.2009 02:01 PM

Well that's cool with me since Sonic Nurse is my second favorite >.>

SpectralJulianIsNotDead 04.28.2009 02:14 PM

I'm trying to figure out if there are any albums in the world that I like better than this, let alone a Sonic Youth album.

Count Mecha 04.28.2009 02:27 PM

I'm digging all of these reviews. Positive stuff, makes me more excited for the album. Anti-Orgasm seems like the big winner so far.

So do any of you streamers like it more than of the other albums in the bands catalog? Excluding RR of course. Granted it's a little early to be asking something like that. But whatever, curiosity.

Yes, better than Sonic Nurse and possibly 1000 Leaves right now.

summer 04.28.2009 02:33 PM

I kind of doubt it's better than A Thousand Leaves but that would be cool

Theremin 04.28.2009 02:41 PM

I love how a thousand leaves is by consencus the definite SY benchmark in this place, such a hipster's choice. :o
All those positive reactions are getting me hyped up though, lets hope you people aren't all matador employees executing some grand promotion scheme. ;)

jennthebenn 04.28.2009 02:41 PM

I'm not going to say it's better than ATL right now, because that is my
favorite album by anyone ever, but I'd put it ahead of RR, Jet Set, NYC,
Bad Moon Rising, Murray Street, CIS and EVOL to my mind right now.

neptuneg 04.28.2009 02:42 PM

Thurston sounds like Lou Reed in Poison Arrow

duderanchnurse 04.28.2009 02:46 PM

at 3rd listening seems like WALKIN BLUE is the big winner
it's such an awesome song
maybe lee's best

radarmaker 04.28.2009 02:46 PM

Comparing it to anything else after just one or two listens makes no sense to me, but fuck, it's good :)

It's not really the consensus per se. It's that...SY, for me, breaks down like this:

1. Early/Harsh/Dark=SY EP-EVOL
2. Epic Era=Sister/DDN/Goo
3. Being hounded by Grunge=Dirty/EJSTNS
4. 90s back to form=Washing Machine/1000 Leaves
5. Early 00's finding a new way=NYC/Murray Street
6. Mid 00's losing the way=Sonic Nurse/RR

The Eternal would, on first listen, create a #7. I not going to try to say The Eternal touches #s 1 & 2. But I could say it's the best they've done since Dirty barring Murray Street, "The Diamond Sea" and a few songs from EJSTNS.

stophereyes 04.28.2009 02:50 PM

the eternal is otay

you bet.
This is on purpose.
I hope.

This album fookin' rule.
Will post full review by ***THE REX*** after a few more listens.
but very enjoyable so far.
I'm no RR hater at all, i thought it was a very summery, stripped to basics LP, but this kick's RR's butt VERY severely imo.

duderanchnurse 04.28.2009 02:50 PM

for those who haven't heard the montage: DONT
it kinda ruins 1st listens

toxic johnny 04.28.2009 02:50 PM

Massage The History will go down in history as a definitive SY song. Just amazing...

greedrex 04.28.2009 02:52 PM

intro to Malibu Gas Station is wow

Schizophrenia 04.28.2009 03:12 PM

It's already leaked, thank god.

I'm just listening to Anti-Orgasm and, woooooooooooooow, song of the year so far. lol

EDIT: I WILL NOT ANSWER TO MORE PM'S!

pokkeherrie 04.28.2009 03:13 PM

Hmm, I ordered it an hour ago and just finished listening to the stream.

After one listening I like What We Know and especially Massage The History.... the rest of the songs not so much unfortunately, but some were ok. I'll listen some more before giving judgement.

where have you found that? and what quality?

killthecaliforniagirls 04.28.2009 03:15 PM

so the montage doesn´t offer a good idea of this record?! I´m asking because i really really don´t like the montage AND i don´t like the idea of cutting a record into 12 little pieces they´re not meant to be (excuse my bad english)

toxic johnny 04.28.2009 03:19 PM

Second time listening to Massage The History... OMFG.
x

Yes, because the cuts, are pretty random...as in different pieces of the same song stuck together to sound like they appear like that on the album.

greedrex 04.28.2009 03:21 PM
