Thanks for the links. As for the video... First I had to turn on my VPN so the site wouldn't think I was a bad hombre from a shithole. Then I used Video DownloadHelper, but all I got was a nanofragment. Then for some reason the same VDH extension let me get a full-length 1280x720 mp4, but it was only video. So THEN, once again with VDH, I got another mp4 that was audio-only. And THEN I used Media Converter & Muxer to combine shit up. And NOW there's this:

Lemme know how it looks/sounds on yer device over there.

HEY WHAT is still the best album of the decade as far as I’m concerned.

These are the details, by the way:

If someone can extract a better version, more power to us all, but I guess what I got could be what there is. What what - in the butt.

hipster_bebop_junkie 08.04.2023 01:23 AM

Amazing. Thank you so much, as well for detailing the process. Now with those tools I should probably try to download the recent Friday I'm in Low videos from instagram. The one from last weekend's was beautiful, but also heartbreaking.

The Soup Nazi 08.05.2023 03:24 PM

The Wire interviewed Kramer recently and, "to accompany the interview", put up a playlist on their site. As they should, they included a Low song, "Words". Here's the paragraph about it:

Quote:

Low
“Words”
From I Could Live In Hope (Vernon Yard, 1994)

Low’s debut LP, recorded at Kramer’s Noise New Jersey studio, stands out as one of the great records of the 1990s. In our interview, Kramer tells the story of how an envelope containing the cassette demo that Alan Sparhawk and Mimi Parker had mailed to the Shimmy-Disc post office box arrived shredded, prompting him to follow a trail of clues to track down the artists responsible for the hauntingly gorgeous music it contained. At Kramer’s urging, I Could Live In Hope was released by Virgin Records’ Vernon Yard imprint rather than Shimmy-Disc, which lacked the resources to make the record the hit he felt it deserved to be. Everything about this track is perfect — a testament to both the band’s magic and Kramer’s understated production style.

For What Seems a Thousand Year by IOSIS // LOW

IOSIS // LOW
For What Seems a Thousand Years

// // //

For What Seems a Thousand Years is a fractal reimagination of and a bearing of witness to Low's groundbreaking album HEY WHAT. This album is a meditative fever dream that was performed live at Parkway Theater, Minneapolis, on October 18th, 2022.

The performance was inspired by loss, by things falling apart in ways that are out of control, and that are impossible to recover once gone. It is an exercise in acceptance, and it was not and is not meant to be an easy listen. Lose yourself to the music, take a walk with it, allow it to envelop you and give yourself over to the transformative experience.

Full performance video here:

// // //

Thank you Low, with all of my gratitude, for a lifetime of inspiration and catharsis, and for offering me the opportunity to explore this body of work and for urging me to document and share the results.

Thank you Shane, Holly, Chris, BJ and to everybody else who supported me in realizing For What Seems a Thousand Years.

Dedicated to those who we've lost.

update after briefly listening through it all, and much fast forwarding:
didn't like. Too much distortion, hurts my ears
but my ears are f#cked, so that doesn't mean that you won't like

hipster_bebop_junkie 10.07.2023 05:12 PM

It's heavy and mournful. I like it. Core material is LOW's "Hey What". Sub Pop only gave rights for digital release and the Youtube content, no physical release for sure, but it has been approved by Alan.

Another related artifact: There is a cover of "Laser Beam" on this CD by Ian Manire as a tribute to LOW and Mimi Parker. All sales of the CD and digital downloads are donated to the Minnesota Ovarian Cancer Alliance in Mimi's honor.

Nobody tells us anything anymore.

Just a coupla days ago I found out Joanna Newsom and CA Governor Gavin Newsom are related. True story. "Second cousins, twice removed", whatever that means.

I'm currently listening to this, perhaps some of you might want to hear it too.

It's a two hour memorial for Mimi Parker, broadcast on 11 January 2023 on Dutch channel Concertzender: https://www.concertzender.nl/programma/thema_698739/

there's a woman speaking in Dutch but only occasionally, so I don't think it will be too disturbing if you don't understand what she's saying.
Large part comes from a live recording in the Catherinachurch in Eindhoven (which I didn't attend even though I live a 10 minutes walk away), but also some studio recordings culled from various albums merely their older ones.
