The reason I say Pelt is because (it seems to me) that's the kind of sound many of the loopy droney folks are aiming for, but fail to reach.
|
The fact that the members of Pelt can each play the ass off of his instrument makes their potential for more interesting abstractions far greater than a lot of their contemporaries. Not that some of their "untutored" bretheren aren't making worthwhile music, of course, but part of the reason Pelt are such a powerhouse is due to their sheer prowess as versatile and dextrous players in whatever style they choose to work in.
|
are pelt even active any more, or has jack rose's solo career eclipsed them?
|
I think they may be in remission at the moment. Don't quote me on that, though.

I forgot about emo. Fucking sucks. Although MCR's "Helena" was a guilty pleasure of mine for a while.

You're alive! And I like french music. And by that I mean, I saw Amelie a few times and liked the music. |
people who i can trust inform me that there was a lot of good french pop music in the 60s, i don't really know enough myself to back that up other than the sound track to Un Homme Et Une Femme being fantastic and a track a friend put on a mixtape for me by a guy named Joel Favreau

all metal actually |
the current trend of overthetop screaming followed immediately by bubblegum pop vocals is what has been annoying me most recently

pavarotti is dead so there's no hope left for opera now
|
Does opera deserve all this stick?
The answer is no. |

Otherwise, stadium rock / cock rock. |

I'll be sure to tell the hundreds of thriving opera houses across the world this when I see them. |

Not worst, but close: late 90s top 40 acts - e.g. Hootie and the blowfish, Sugar Ray, Barenaked Ladies, Smashmouth, Counting Crows, etc. somewhat enjoyable at first, but they played them ad libitum on the radio...

As good ol' Hank III puts it: So I'm here to put the "dick" in Dixie and the "cunt" back in country 'Cause the kind of country I hear now days is a bunch of fuckin' shit to me They say that I'm ill-mannered that I'm gonna self-destruct But if you know what I'm thinkin' you'll know that pop country really sucks Hank Williams III - "Dick in Dixie" |

after careful consideration, i've decided: whatever music magik markers plays is definitely the worst style (and for the love of god, it's NOT no wave).

Stadium Rock is fine, the problem is things that are Stadium Rock but disguised as something else.

Adult Contemporary - I've never even listened to anything that could be deemed as such (I think) but any genre that has to suffer the burden of being tagged with such a name must be atrocious.
Kindergarden electronica with pixie-like voices should only be made to be listened by retarded children, and not adults. I used to listen to a fair amount of what they call Nintendo pop/microchip music, and apart from the fact that most of it sounds identical and is empty of any descernable message, it should only inhabit the videogames that it belongs to. |
Style has nothing to do with good or bad music.
And for the love of God, opera isn't even a style of music, it's a genre. Style and genre are two different things. In fact, they're kind of opposed to one another. |
opera is a genre
lyric italian opera is a style |
Yes, yes, yes. House music is a genre but Progressive House is a style. Do Re Mi.

Concerning french music, I mean the mainstream music, awful. But we have many independant bands who are not so bad. I 've never bought any french music album. "Amelie", well, it's a gloomy vision of Paris, but not very topical I think. The music is correct. |
For the record, the guy who composed the music to Amelie is a composer called Yann Tiersen, who is both an excellent composer and musician, if you are not looking for 'innovative' thrills. He also had one of his tracks remixed wonderfully by Third Eye Foundation. A pretty excellent French band that you should check out is Bed.
|
Thanks, I think my girlfriend 's got few albums of Tiersen, I'm gonna try them.
|
Check out the stuff put out by a record label called Ici D'Ailleurs. They tend to have good artists in their ranks. Another band that you should keep an eye on is Bastard, on the same label.
