The who= Nirvana ?
Dinosaur Jr= Jimi Hendrix Experience !!!! |
I think Sonic Youth compares best to (The) Pink Floyd. They've had much too long a career and too much success (a couple of gold albums) to compare properly to The Velvet Underground.

I haven't read the whole thread, so maybe I'm late in throwing this in...
Sonic Youth (at least some of them) were the 'house band' for the movie Backbeat. Everyone remembers this, yes? So in a way Sonic Youth literally is the Beatles of our generation... |
Quote:
That would be just Thurston. Others that were the Backbeat band were Dave Grohl (drums-Nirvana), Greg Dulli (vocals-Afghan Whigs), Dave Pirner (vocals-Soul Asylum), Don Fleming (guitar) and Mike Mills (bass-R.E.M.) I think that short 30 minute cd rocks ! It's NON Beatle material they played in their early days in Hamburg...fine movie too, focused on Lennon and Stu Sutcliffe's relationship mostly and their mutual fondness for Astrid Kirchner... |
no! no! the Sonic Youth are the Velvet Underground of our generation the essence of the sound it´s more close to each other than the Beatles, who sounds miles away from here, so let see:
Lou Reed - Thurston Moore John Cale - Lee Ranaldo Sterling Morrison - Kim Gordon Moe Tucker - Steve Shelley Andy Warhol - ?? Glenn Branca?? |

Nice thread. Don't know if anyone already mentioned/noticed this:
Jim O'Rourke = Billy Preston |
any good blogspot to download some freaky '77-'84 underground noise avant garde music???
aaaah, about this thread, yeap, I think Sonic Youth is beyond The Beatles and Rolling Stones, but in a couple of decades they will be seen as ¿¿¿classicals??? or is it classics??? Anyway, I think you all get my point. |
