bss is the worst shit ever. its like every hipster in canada got together to make the most boring, indulgent indie rock ever put to man, knowing it would grant them at least an 8.5 in pitchfork.

super_charger 06.26.2008 05:05 PM

It will still probably be listened to by many years from now. I mean I don't like the White Stripes but I still have to admit they have put out what will probably become classic albums too.

Well, Bloweyelashwish wasn't made in the 00s.

atsonicpark 06.26.2008 05:13 PM

no, but glissencule was.

atsonicpark 06.26.2008 05:13 PM

also yeah, I hate broken social scene.

Sonic Youth 37 06.26.2008 05:14 PM

So was Chorus, but I didn't like it as much.

It's probably their most accessible album and for that reason most likely to become a future classic.

atsonicpark 06.26.2008 05:17 PM

i think amplifier worship and absolutego will be remembered more as a classic, if they aren't already considered that. Being liked by many people (like Pink) is different than being worshipped by a few people.

super_charger 06.26.2008 05:21 PM

I see what you're saying but I think the definition of a classic must include some degree of popularity. That's the difference between being a classic and having a cult following.

atsonicpark 06.26.2008 05:22 PM

Hmmm.

super_charger 06.26.2008 05:31 PM

To illustrate my point I'd like to assert that the Black album by Metallica is far from their best or most consistent but closest to bing a 'classic album' as it more or less went on to define the heavy metal of the day.

atsonicpark 06.26.2008 05:32 PM

Yeah but their first 5 albums are all considered classic albums.

that is BS, man. that is their populist sell out album and wil forever remain so, except in the eyes of non-metal head idiots who glommed on to metallica once it was safe for their pussy soft ears.

master of puppets and Justice For All will stand as the two that fucking KILL, forever.

atsonicpark 06.26.2008 05:35 PM

"frayed ends of sanity" is my favorite metallica song by far.

that part that's all power chords 0-3-5-0-3-5-0-3-0-3-0-3-5-2-2-2-2-2-2-3-4-5-6? FUCK!

super_charger 06.26.2008 05:38 PM

I don't like any of their crap, but that's not the point. Everyone and their mother knows the Black album.

FYP

Everyneurotic 06.26.2008 05:41 PM

and i thought critics and magazines were getting obsolete.

good to know that there's still people who spew back whatever they publish as prophecy and dogma.

atsonicpark 06.26.2008 05:42 PM

five year plan rules!

SuperCreep 06.26.2008 06:02 PM

Something tells me that Pink will gain Houdini status in the next twenty years, being that it's an accessible and good starting point for the band, but nowhere near what they're capable of, and while certainly a popular and notable effort, will not be a classic over albums like Flood or Feedbacker (or most of their other albums.)

noisereductions 06.26.2008 06:32 PM

this is like a shitty tugowar.

acousticrock87 06.26.2008 08:04 PM

Frances the Mute

*tug* :)

You should have said Amputechture

acousticrock87 06.26.2008 08:26 PM

The Volta haters won't know the difference, and V'ia V'iaquez is timeless.

Sonic Youth 37 06.26.2008 08:28 PM

Yes. Frances is MUCH better than Amputechture. I have no idea what I was trying to say with my previous post.

samuel 06.26.2008 08:52 PM

The Glow Pt. 2 by the Microphones
MACHINA & MACHINA II by the Smashing Pumpkins

for me

Definitely agree on this one, as well as the Mount Eerie album.

Death & the Maiden 06.27.2008 01:12 AM

I don't have much music from the 00's. The ones I would consider "classics" are:
The Strokes - Is This It
Sonic Youth - Sonic Nurse
The Verlaines - Pot Boiler
Ed Kuepper - Jean Lee & the Yellow Dog

schizophrenicroom 06.27.2008 03:33 AM

KUDOS on the microphones.

batreleaser 06.27.2008 06:36 AM

'classic album' is such a relative thing, one persons classic can be anothers garbage. like above people are talkin about the greatness of 'frances the mute', id rather shit my pants on a blind date than listen to that record again.

ditto the microphones

Derek 06.27.2008 07:06 AM

I think that Kayo Dot in time will have the same effect as The Velvet Underground did in the 60s. There are already bands spawning up that are strongly influenced by them.

But ehhh I'm probably wrong hahaha.

super_charger 06.27.2008 07:19 AM

Kayo Dot is fucking boring.

Derek 06.27.2008 07:23 AM

You're boring.

super_charger 06.27.2008 07:26 AM

Oooh good one.

Derek 06.27.2008 07:33 AM

Yeah hahaha.

So, in what way are they boring, is it that they have a lot of random noodling in their songs or what?

super_charger 06.27.2008 07:43 AM

I think a better question is how are they exciting? But really it doesn't matter. For any 'classic' album that someone puts out there there's someone there to tear it down.

Derek 06.27.2008 07:48 AM

Well they are exciting for me cause I find them compositionally interesting and highly emotive.

But yeah, second part of that post is right. I mean, I fucking hate Doolittle but millions upon millions of people would disagree with me.

batreleaser 06.27.2008 08:17 AM

kayo dot is amazing, but the velvet underground? are you fucking kidding me? they are arguably the most important band of all time. no band could have the effect that they had.
