I love that song. It's probably my favorite on Sung Tongs just because college is absurdly frustrating some times.

Anyway, I don't think Animal Collective is a great band, but they're pretty good. I have a hard time seeing why people love them so much, but I like them enough to listen to them fairly often.

davenotdead 10.09.2008 12:20 AM

i think the more you really delve into their bootlegs/b-sides/history/back-catalog, the better they become. it might explain the rabid fan base, of which i am surely apart of

uhler 10.09.2008 12:26 AM

i don't remember if the one i like is sung tongs or feels so i just picked feels. i'm not a big fan of them.

o o o 10.09.2008 05:32 AM

They are playing here on Saturday in what is usually a techno club (and it will indeed be exactly that later in the night)... Is that any indication of what their recent concerts sound like?

In any case, the place is huge and their sound has also the potential to be huge there...

Hottt! I wish they'd drop something sooner than Jan09, though. I guess I can't complain. "Water Curses" is one of my favorite jams of the year.

Derek 10.09.2008 10:10 AM

Looking forward to the new album... I hope they make this their best one yet.

SYRFox 10.09.2008 11:59 PM

not surprising... they should still be touring as a 3-piece, and possibly without guitar... their new sounds are more electronic/dubby/clubby/wubby for sure...

but of course, they change it up for each tour, and since they haven't started this one yet, then i can't guarantee you what it's going to be like

Moshe 10.10.2008 12:34 AM

In recent concerts they play the new songs + 3,4 old ones. Does anyone here have the new songs? I would like to hear them before going to their gig in a couple of weeks.

davenotdead 10.10.2008 12:43 AM

usually when they're in the studio recording their current setlists, they write all new material for shows... i haven't heard anything yet about whether or not they've done this... but they did for the last 2 albums...

SYRFox 10.10.2008 05:30 AM

I sure hope they'll play new songs at the new shows. They did not play anything new at the Belgium show last month though, and I think I read on the Collected Animals board that Geologist confirmed that Deakin wouldn't be there, so I think they won't play any new songs this time... well we'll see. Someone better record them anyway !

fugazifan 10.10.2008 07:08 AM

im going to the same show as moshe. ill try to record it with something...
too bad walk arounbd with you wont be on the new album. i love that some. i dont like girl with flowers in her hair and it doesnt seem to beon the tracklist, so thats good.

Actually both songs were renamed. Walk Around With You was renamed Bearhug, and it's finally on the album as "Summertime Clothes". Flowers In Her Hair was then "Dancer", and is now "In The Flowers"

SYRFox 10.10.2008 10:11 AM

By the way, Moshe did a great job - just to add, No More Runnin is a very beautiful and quiet song, and it's likely that Guys Eyes is the (fantastic) song previously known as Song For Ariel. Which would be great, the Song For Ariel / Taste segue was perfect in live shows

greedrex 10.10.2008 10:11 AM

am i the only one to think that their music would be a lot better with a "bassier " sound. Too much treble for my liking on most of their releases.

atsonicpark 10.10.2008 10:59 AM

Nah I think I said that a few posts back. Better production would be nice.

davenotdead 10.10.2008 12:31 PM

well i expect this to be their bes-produced album... and it will be their most-bass-y ... Ben Allen did the mixing

Animal Collective - Merriweather Post Pavilion: Live Preview

HaydenAsche 10.14.2008 01:42 PM

I voted Here Comes The Indian. I can't see what the big fuss is over feels either. To me, it's the album with the most consistently mediocre songs on it.

atsonicpark 10.14.2008 02:49 PM

Most people on here are consistently mediocre. Maybe that explains it?

[Sandbag] 10.14.2008 02:59 PM

'Feels'... because is the only one i've got..and I really like it.

correct me if im wrong but i have a pretty diverse taste in music and agree with you on enough music that im pretty sure that you dont consider me consistently mediocre, and yet i really love feels. its just a really great album. i agree that HCTI is probably a bit better and more accomplished and sung tongs has a great atmosphere, but feels still has the songs that make me feel so happy and make me want to dance and put a smile on my face...
i dont know
to each their own i guess

I like maybe two songs from Feels... the rest are a snoozefest.

I still say that Strawberry Jam is their best, amazing songwriting and very interesting sounds.

I wasn't talking about you. Loving Feels is fine... it is their safest and blandest and most boring recording, but if you love it that's fine. I just think some people only chose it BECAUSE it is their safest, blandest, and most boring.

dressedindreams 10.15.2008 03:30 AM

they will never write a better song than alvin row,
so i voted spirit...

Or maybe they just choose it because, you know, it's the one they love the most.

lechaoscestmoi 10.15.2008 06:37 AM

why do most people like the album i don't????!!!! you're all boring!!!

Derek 10.15.2008 06:38 AM

Let's all go for some frosty chocolate milkshakes!

Hence why I said, "But if you love it, that's fine." I meant that as a general statement. I don't care if someone genuinely loves it... It's still unquestionably their safest and most easy-to-listen-to record... nothing I or anyone else will say can change that.

Also, I highly doubt most people who replied feels have actually bothered to listen to most of Animal Collective's output. Just guessing on that one.

Oh well, couldn't really give a fuck less either way.

noisereductions 10.15.2008 08:21 AM

I love Animal Collective, but this thread needs to die already.

atsonicpark 10.15.2008 08:26 AM

yeah, this thread is almost as boring as feels
