Damn, great unique list. Bands like Savage Republic, the Clean, No Trend, and especially Venom P. Stinger (the noisiest hardcore band ive ever heard) are all stuff we love but often forget about when it comes to lists. |

great list, but space ritual came out long before the 80s |

Pookie, do you like ANYTHING? Do you even listen to music? Seriously...
I like DJ Rick's list, that guy is hella cool. |
Boo. Down with Pookie criticism. Boo I say.
|
Oh come on, I've never heard the guy say anything positive about any band discussed.

Quote:
Too bad you think so, "Space Ritual" is my pick for most epic live recording ever. But it came out in 74, how the fuck could anyone think it was from the 80s? The inside cover features tons of shots of a young Lemmy, who by the 80s was old and already in Motorhead for years. So the person who thought it was made in the 80s has obviously never seen the actual physical copy of the album, and therefore assumed that the Fururist Sci-Fi Glam-Psych Prog Rock general headfuckery could never be made prior to 1980. But amazingly, this shit was mid 70s, 74' if I assume correct. |

Edit: I looked through some of his threads. He likes the Cramps. And anyone liking the Cramps doesn't have to be positive about anything else, because the Cramps are fucking awesome. It would seem he likes Takemitsu as well, which is a fair sign of having better taste than most of the turd that's dredged about here. |

if so, then I'll replace it with Negativland - Escape From Noise |
both derek and glice are right! and so too is pookine but escape from noise only a replacement...shame on you signpost!

Top 10 Artists of the 80s:
1. The Fall 2. The Angry Samoans 3. Game Theory 4. Pussy Galore 5. Black Flag 6. The Minutemen 7. Sonic Youth 8. Half Japanese 9. Metallica 10. Blue Humans |
I'm in the US until Saturday so I don't have access to my collection, and thus can't compile a "proper" top 25. So here's just a rattled "off the top of my head" attempt:

Also wow, I just looked properly back at my list, and, much as it's probably expected on this board, serious pasty white guitars alert...
|
Most black musicians in "R&B" in the 80s made pasty white pop music, too.
Kool & the Gang sang "Joanna" Lionel Richie sang "Penny Lover" Philip Bailey broke from Earth Wind & Fire to duet w/ Phil Collins It was a real travesty, that decade. (by and large, anyway) |

yeah, but you also got hip hop. take the good with the bad, and for underground rock the 80s still cant be beat. |
yeah, but on the other hand you could do a top 25 of 80s hiphop records and you'd have more than enough amazing records to choose from.
EDIT: too slow! |
I haven't heard enough 80's music to do many, but here's some I'd consider my top ten:
1. Husker Du - Zen Arcade 2. Pixies - Doolittle 3. Pixies - Surfer Rosa 4. Dinosaur Jr. - You're Living All Over Me 5. Husker Du - New Day Rising 6. Sonic Youth - Sister 7. Big Black - Atomizer 8. Fugazi - 13 Songs 9. Big Black - Songs About Fucking 10. Sonic Youth - Daydream Nation |
Overall top 5 Prediction (no order):
You're Living All Over Me Surfer Rosa Daydream Nation Songs About Fucking Isn't Anything I win an internet and a half if I'm right. |

i was goin to say 13 songs is a comp but i used the minor threat album two epes on one album so i don't have any room to talk. |
It's a bit of a gray area I guess. panto said that EP's were fine, and it's two put together so haha. Otherwise I can just vote for the EP's separately.
|
If we're including EPs, then I'm going to add Metal Circus to my list.
|
Pookie has great tastes.
|
I'm not saying anything bad about hip hop...I specifically singled out R&B....it died an ugly death in the 80s.

Yeah, you're probably right actually. I haven't read anyone elses responses though, so it was a blind guess.

It's interesting to see the differences between the lists of people who aren't old enough to remember the 80s and old fellas like me who most definitely are. I would always choose Kollaps by Einsturzende Neubauten (as opposed to the albums other people have listed), Rembrandt Pussyhorse (over Locust Abortion Technician or Hairway To Steven), Yo! Bum Rush The Show (over It Takes A Nation...), Cop (over Filth) and so on, because I remember these albums coming out. In each case these records were my first exposure to these bands and I clearly remember the impact each had on me. And I'm not saying that it means my selections are better. Even though they clearly are. |

I already predicted a SY clean sweep of the 80's top 5 in the 90's thread. Though I guess Isn't Anything might edge out either Confusion or Bad Moon. I'm looking forward to the 70's list, because at least that one won't be clogged up with SY albums... |
yeah i was hoping someone would do a 70s list
