Some people just don't understand sarramkrop's sense of "humor".
|
that's probably what it is. But also I think he doesn't like me a little.
|
You're right, I don't.
|
CLASSIC Porky.
GO! |
See?
|
Me and him haven't had any epic arguments in a good 6 months now. Sigh.

I Fucking Love Tis Cover Art
|
Yeah, I love this cover, too! I hate the hyphenated name, and the font could be better, but I think I'll manage to pull through and get over it.
|
what, John Fahey painted it? I HATE IT NOW!!!!
;) |
I usually really like Sonic Youth covers despite them not being particularly eye catching at first glance... But this cover is god awful, the band name and the album title look so awkward . ..
|
Yes, the cover seems like an afterthought. It looks like a total Mark E. Smith "yeah, that one, whatever" moment. I do love the Fall though.
I really don't mind the painting though -- it's the black stripes and the cheapo font that make it look like an ugly bootleg. |

What a prat, texting whilst having his photo taken. |
I wanna join sonic youth. I'll play Kim's thigh-slappers....
|
I hope the music is as out there as the painting!! It won't be hard to one up RR in that that department.
It seems like the band is really fucking proud of it, so that's def. a good sign. I'm pretty pumped. |

I defo see a polar bear too :) |
I actually love the sleeve - including the black bits and the font. The hyphen is pretty cool too.
I wonder what the LP will sound like from the back catalogue? I'm reckoning a mixture of Murray Street and Sonic Nurse. I'm hoping for an NYC Ghosts/Washing Machine vibe. |
The picture itself is ok though it looks like the mother of all Zit Volcanoes. As for the inexplicable widescreen effect, its just silly
Someone should make a poll for the best/worst SY artwork... |
since a larger version was asked for, it has finally arrived
![]() are they like in Coco's room or something? like Thurston goes "i totally think Coco's room is totally evocative of the sound of this album like the Wipers references i keep making!!" |
I'm sure he also used the word "extrapolate" in there too, no?
|
They look like they're listening to donk remixes on their phones.

Stop picking on Mark. Kim's on the phone too. |
I see a nipple.

Well I'm very excited... there seems to be an extra special vibe about this release, from all of the things I've picked up on the internet... I love the sleeve too, as somebody else pointed out, there seems to be an 80's reference which has to be deliberate. (love the return of the hyphen!)... can't wait for some new Sonic invention... especially the Bobby Pyn track, that title really intrigues me. I'm really, really, really going to try to wait and not listen to any leaks.

Let's add more creepy details. There's no reflection of Lee in the mirror.
And... um. "Giving Made Easy"? |
New Sonic Youth Album Details, We Haz Them; Producer Agnello Weighs in on the Album
Sonic Youth are back with their 384,204,489th album, and I am more than okay with that, and you should be too. Titled The Eternal, the album marks Sonic Youth’s triumphant return to the indie world, as it’s set for release on Matador. It also features the chops of veteran rock producer John Agnello, who worked on 2006’s barn-burner, Rather Ripped. Laid down during November and December of last year in Hoboken at Echo Canyon West Studios, The Eternal breaks more creative ground than your average bear, almost as if saying “sayonara” to Geffen made ’em let their hair down more than usual. Kim, Thurston, and Lee sing together for the first time in recorded SY history, and well, shit — considering their gigantic stack o’ records, I’d say that’s pretty significant. We’ve also got the first tracks ever recorded in a studio by former Pavement/Dustdevils bassist Mark Ibold, who’s only been a live component until now. I spoke briefly with producer John Agnello, who seems in awe of his (and the band’s) own handiwork, saying, "This is the record I wished I could have made with them throughout the nineties. Which proves all things come to he who waits. The magic they created in the studio together tracking was unparalleled to anything I’ve seen before. Some of these songs are already SY favorites to me." Which is a pretty bold statement, as Sonic Youth have created about a zillion masterpieces in their 28-year career. But hey, he’s heard the record and I haven’t, so I trust him. The Eternal drops on June 9, but you can get it sooner with a special Buy Early Get Now deal, which Matador will be announcing down the pike. In the meantime, SY fans in Germany and Brooklyn should be totally stoked about shows in their areas, but if that’s not your jam, you can read about some of the many (many, many) projects they’re working on here. Quantity AND quality, you betcha. The Eternal tracklisting: 1. Sacred Trickster 2. Anti-Orgasm 3. Leaky Lifeboat (for Gregory Corso) 4. Antenna 5. What We Know 6. Calming The Snake 7. Poison Arrow 8. Malibu Gas Station 9. Thunderclap For Bobby Pyn 10. No Way 11. Walkin Blue 12. Massage The History |
jeez, you're still not telling us the preorder deal? C'mon, man!
|
Moshe, will we actually get the album earlier with the pre-order deal?
|
i promise you that i'll share the details as soon as i get them.
|
didn't thurston, kim and lee already sing together on renegade princess?
or do they mean full verses this time around. |
I'm sure all three have contributed vocals to the same song in the past, on more than a few occasions. I'm guessing that it must be that: for all three to have individual verses (which would be awesome).

ahaaah. when did SY adopt ewan mcgregor? i wonder if the phones are s'posed to represent that SY is calling mark and inviting him to officially "go steady" |
^^ No, Mark is sending a message to Malkmus : " Hi Stephen, hope you're fine. I'm not on hand to reform Pavement at the moment, I've just found a more kick ass band. Maybe in 10 years, when they won't be able to play guitar. Sorry, wish you luck to find an other bassist. Bye. Mark"

I'm hoping they'll post the songs to stream shortly before the album hits, like they did with Rather Ripped.
