not funny or not not funny?

Is he that "dead terrorist" guy? That's seriously the most unfunny thing ever. It's not even funny how unfunny that dude is. Painfully indeed. Cringeworthy. Neil Hamburger isn't funny. Tom Green isn't funny. Seinfeld isn't funny. Family Guy isn't funny. |

these two twats
![]() their show is (was?) about the painful humiliation of its characters, but it's not funny, unless you enjoy watching dogs getting ran over |

You're fucking stupid if you don't think that show is funny. |
Peep Show is funny.
|
mitchell and webb-- the characters are pathetic and stupid so you can never expect anything else of them, so it ceases to be funny really quickly. you just watch them suffer their own stupidity.
there was some similar thing with some shit called the green... wing, or something. it's just unsympathetic characters doing stupid shit-- not funny. i think you bitches are confusing mean spirited with funny. maybe it's a british social s/m thing. on the other hand you have awesome shit like black adder, black books (the first 2 series, not the 3rd), mr bean, and fawlty towers, which my wife has by now memorized line by line. oh and the original office-- that was great too-- and i liked extras. |

some sad cunts in an apartment, one is a pathetic musician wannabe the other is some neurotic office cunt, they both suck at everything and while i understand they are parodying a number of aberrant behaviors they lack any and all redeeming quality that might render them sympathetic even in the slightest, so watching them is like watching a dog take a shit i gotta go |
Peep Show is awful.

What? The argument isn't about who is SUCCESSFUL, it is who is comedically relevant. Any random ass guy can come up with some interesting humor, that doesn't mean he constantly plays to packed houses. Same thing about a band -- I wouldn't say "oh, you haven't sold 10 million copies"; I'd say, "What song have you written as good as 'Super Go'?" |

You've misunderstood. infinite music wasn't talking about that. I think he's talking about how you told Rob (I think) that he couldn't criticise Tom Green because he himself wasn't a successful comedian. |
No, I never criticized him for not being a successful comedian. I "criticized" him for not coming up with anything funny or original himself. Big difference. Success has nothing to do with influencing my opinions in the least -- talent does. See, even if you "hate" Tom Green, it still seems silly to outright dismiss him, since he's a true original, and obviously a comedic genius. It's pointless to criticize him, when he is in a league of his own. I was just asking Rob if he'd come up with any comedic innovations lately. It's not supposed to be some epic argument here, just a genuine question, which would have lead to me illustrating my point a bit better.

There was a time that I liked Louis C.K.
That time has passed. Doug Stanhope is also predictable shit. |

You're an idiot. So Rob has to make you laugh before his opinion becomes valid? So you can't have a negative opinion of Tom Green because he's good is basically what you're saying. What if you don't think he's good? |

your mother is fucking stupid. she showed up for her abortion on the wrong day and here you are. alright, fuck off now. Quote:
really? even hitler was nice to his secretaries. anyway, i tried watching some episodes, and while i find that the theory of "comedy is a man in trouble" is generally true, these here are not men, but worms, and watching worms being crushed by passersby is just not funny to me. it's kinda like watching a snuff video, but the slaughter is psychological. i do get how some people might find humor in that, but i find it too... cynical? nihilistic? can't put my finger on it but the watching became unpleasant after a couple of episodes. they have another show that made me laugh when they are nazis who begin to think that maybe they are "the baddies"-- but i haven't seen much of that and i don't recall other clips that got my attention. i'll have to re-check it, but i'm currently caught in the absurdity of korean dramas and their irritating slowness. |

Interestingly, that's also the only sketch I can remember from the program. |

Yes, I am clearly an idiot, for replying to this yet again, constantly breaking down one throw-away sentence in order to simplify it so you can clearly understand it. Here, I'll try one more time here.. let me paraphrase the whole argument here for you, in comedic terms, I'll put words in everyone's mouths like people do to me, but it's for comedy! It's for comedy, so it's okay! Here goes! Me: Tom Green is a genius! Rob: TOM GREEN SUCKS, HE NEEDS TO DIE, HE HAS NO FANS! HE ISN'T FUNNY! Me: Tom Green belongs to a school of anti-humor, like Kaufman and Neil Hamburger, he can't be judged on the same terms as everyone else. Rob: NO! HE'S JUST AN IDIOT! JUST SHOCK TACTIC SHIT! Me: Oh, really, and what brilliant comedic innovations have you brought to the table lately? The dude's a genius! Forward-thinking, and everyone's ripped him off! ROB: AND ANDY KAUFMAN ISN'T FUNNY EITHER! FUCK THAT SHIT! IF I WANT COMEDY I'LL DA DA DA DA. Me: Blah blah blah. infinitemusic: [idiot bullshit] Lurker: DUh UmM OH eh? There ya go. Rob's opinion is completely valid to me -- I don't outright dismiss anyone's opinion... buuuuuuuut Rob does have a habit of outright dismissing TONS of things, often for completely ridiculous reasons -- this band "sucks" because they don't "rock", this comedian uses "shock tactics" so he is automatically "shitty", etc. So, um. Yeah. That's all. Seems pretty clear to me. Or do I need to simplify it again? Wait, I will! I don't give a shit who likes Tom Green, but he's still important in the history, the evolution, of comedy. There'd be no Jackass without Tom Green, for example. He's a true original, one of a kind. Fuck, I don't like the Beatles at all, but I recognize them as important to popular music. I do give a shit when people outright dismiss things for ridiculous reasons. Or, at least I did when I replied to this stuff like 15 hours ago. Now I just wanna drink a beer with Rob and look at big asses. |
Quote:
Rob gives you a reason for not liking Tom Green (shock tactics do get tedious really quickly) and then you say "well what have you done Rob?" It's irrelevant what Rob has done. It's not something he has defend himself on, and it doesn't have anything to do with whether he is qualified or not to criticise. Rob is not going around saying he is comedian. |
Sure, but what I said is not something that's a big deal in the least; like, I don't mean any malice behind it, it was just a simple aside... it's all in good nature, no reason for anyone on here to put some spin on it like it was some kind of personal attack, that I was trying to invalidate his opinions with that little quote. It was more saying -- hey, this guy has done tons of forward-thinking shit that shouldn't be outright dismissed -- what have you done? Hell, what have >I< done? What has anyone done, that even comes close to some of the innovations Mr. Green has brought to the world? I think he's importance, it's worth recognizing his importance.
..But, anyway, if someone doesn't like shock tactics that's fine, but I'd say that's only like 10% of his material. Either way. |
AAaaaaahhhh!!!!!!!!!! I can't be bothered anymore!
|
Now that's funny. Right, Tom? ![]() Bahahaha! |
![]() oh man. |
But, seriously, folks, does anyone on here LOVE Neil Hamburger?
![]() Saw this dude live twice and I literally pissed myself laughing so much. Funniest thing I've ever seen! |
Quote:
Yes, you're right. Those faces are very innovative. |
Haha.
Repped. ...but, seriously, he invented his own type of comedy. He put turds on microphones and interviewed people while shoving the turd closer and closer to people's faces. |

I think the deal with the characters in Peep Show that while they lack almost any redeeming qualities they have such numerous bad qualities that we can see our own worse behaviour reflected in them, and then we laugh at ourselves. But I can understand this kind of humour may go right over the heads of the pompous, egomaniacal, or unself-aware.

i love peep show! except series 6 which is crap. shark jumped. to me it was just an occasionally quite funny show about 20 something life in the 00's. outside of peep show i find both of them a bit douchey. i liked how uncool robert webb was, how he didn't give a fuck and would rather sit down and read the times and have a cup of tea. i liked his "young fogeyness", until he was on the big fat quiz of the year and he said he had bought a susan boyle album. and it wasn't a joke, he had actually bought it. and sat down and listened to it, and i pictured him thinking "time for a relaxing treat, mmm yes this is quite reasonable, talented singing. 12 quid well spent" and my image of him was shattered and all that young fogeyness became conservative douchery. but he's the kind of guy you think "seems like a decent bloke" which is the whole point of the person he betrays himself as. yet some of peep show, the first 5 seasons have moments of really great comedy, better than anything else apart from the thick of it and xavier that i've seen this decade. |
I saw this Neil Hamburger edition of What's in My Bag on youtube and he got a Kenny Rogers tape to replace the one that was stuck in his car for seven years. As well as his own country album purely for the sake of plugging it to the audience. Crazy comb over.
Anyway, Yakov Smirnoff is horribly unfunny. |
humor is all personal and subjective.
I prefer comedians who do their laugh magic through words alone. I feel a good comedian should be hilarious even if all you can do is hear the sound of his voice alone. Of course that is just a personal bias. |

does that mean that if one strives to be as plain, humble and self-aware as you evidently are --O Holy One-- some day the humor of this particular show may strike one between the eyes, like a bolt of enlightenment? i can see now how you'd find your own reflection in that thing. |

you're not a fan of Pasquale are you? :P http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LTN4RLLpRYc |
Maybe Rob meant that rule no. 2053 says that sometimes something obvious can be very funny, like seeing someone getting trapped between doors etc.
Pasquale, Skinner and Baddiel all suck. |
never heard of this "pasquale" character
