Nah, we both know Thurston is all about T-shirt variety on tour. Blue button up one night...blue button up the next night...tiger cub in a backpack tee for like 7 of the next 10 shows...

Whatever the reason the commentary wasn't included, it's a highly disappointing turn of events. Oh well.

Rob Instigator 09.14.2011 12:58 PM

gonna get it when I strike it rich.

krastian 09.15.2011 09:28 PM

I'm watching it right now and it's fucking great....amazing audio. Kim's bass in Schizophrenia.....fuuuuck, man.

In to Negative Creep now...that shit sounds great too.

Too blasted to write more.

Get it.

noisereductions 09.16.2011 05:36 PM

just got it. Nice to see the full color booklet. One that thing that amazes me is that Universal wasn't smart enough to also make an official CD soundtrack release. Remember when SP's Viewphoria finally came to DVD Virgin also released Earphoria as a CD? Could've been a nice easy tag-along sale.

When is "Silver Rockets & Kool Things : 25 years of Sonic Youth" going to be released. This is a german made documentary and it is fuckin' fantastic. Where is it?

it was released in like 2003. Just in Japan. I imported a copy. It's awesome.

mil_pl 09.19.2011 04:29 PM

^ Is it still avaliable? I remember duo performance of Jim O'Rourke's synths and Thurston Moore's guitar, it was nice. Too bad it wasn't the full length performance. I have some rip somewhere, but with german audio which is kinda annoying.

I think it's OOP. Rappard found it for me actually.

Thanks for the info little friends. Won't hold my breath until it's released stateside.

kenning 09.20.2011 09:36 PM

Okay, finally showed up. The sound on the extras is disappointing, as are the questions from the Q&A ("Broke Punk"). I've always loved the film itself and am glad to have a clean copy, now (my VHS is pretty worn). But the Mote/Flower thing is such a tease.

I just got around to watching the extras.....great shit.

Inhuman and Chapel Hill are my two favorites if I had to pick. Not to mention fucking In Bloom.....wow.

Sykid87 09.27.2011 10:41 PM

I forgot what a great version of "Negative Creep" it is with kim singing in the beginning. The sound quality is so much better!

Chris Lawrence 09.28.2011 01:27 AM

That's Kurt, not Kim!

atari 2600 09.28.2011 12:52 PM

Picked mine up for 19.00 + tax at a local record store and have watched it almost all the way through a couple of times. Knew the extras would be somewhat disappointing, but yeah, that stuff was still cool to see. Too bad this couldn't have been captured in much better quality and quantity. Pretty amazing though that it was put together from just from nine hours of footage.

Count Mecha 09.28.2011 01:42 PM

Gonna be getting this soon upon soon. When I get a couple of dollars together.

Rob Instigator 10.07.2011 04:57 PM

got it. love it all over again. love the sonic youth when they were explosions. tired of the latest soft shit.

Moshe 10.11.2011 02:07 AM

I ordered it a couple of weeks ago but still waiting for it to show in my mail box :(

o'connor 10.11.2011 06:08 PM

i'm having a hell of a time finding it in stores. movie trading company, blockbuster and best buy all didn't even have it in their system. looks like it's only available in the SY store & amazon

SuchFriendsAreDangerous 10.11.2011 06:28 PM

wait this is finally out? I don't believe y'all seem more like a datura inducement rather than reality

E. Noisefield 10.11.2011 09:31 PM

Just watched a bunch of performances from this on youtube. Freak Scene on this is awesome. So's Nirvana, and SY, of course.

I'm sure I couldn't get through the whole shaggin' thing though. I don't like backstage banter.

there's really not much banter. I mean there's some but it's a lot of quick cuts into songs. You really kind of NEED to see this in its entirety.

Rob Instigator 10.12.2011 03:03 PM

I love it because nearly everyone except thurston seems unsure and afraid of the camera. miss those days

there was someone on here who sent DVD-rs of 1991 out to people years and years ago? I mentioned it earlier in the thread but im really curious to know who it was, they sent it to me without asking a penny from me and ive shamefully forgotten who it is. Did they do anyone else this marvellous favour?

I've seen it at some other digital stores besides Amazon and Sonic Youth's Kung Fu store: Newbury Comics, for instance:

Are you sure? Someone might get someone to verify who that is. It could be either.

Chris Lawrence 10.14.2011 01:10 AM

It's Kurt.

I've got my DVD yesterday, FINALLY! I've watched the main film that I had already seen previously, but it was awesome to watch again.
I have just one question: I recall seeing one particular scene with Thurston looking lost in the middle of a city, shouting stuff like "Where's the fucking festival? Where is the soundcheck?". I don't recall seeing this last night on the DVD. I'm almost positive that I've seen this on the first time I watched TYPB.

Does this make sense, or am I just dreaming stuff?

Chris Lawrence 10.14.2011 08:42 AM

I think that bit is in the "Blues Scale" film, but not 100% sure...

RanaldoNecro 10.15.2011 02:39 PM

I thought I saw it both VHS and DVD versions.
