The gig was really good, though it lacked something at the beginning: at the beginning, the sound was not too good (voice really too low), and the public was not too into it. But when they played Every Artist Has A Tragedy, there'd been that deflagration and the show began to be really fantastic. It was really great

yes, all is backed up. but it's the only card i have and there's no way how to get a new smartmedia card in 2 days (and i need time to make stuff too !!)

try to format it with your comp and afterwards with the sampler

i already tried formatting with my computer -> worked ok.
afterwards tried formatting with the sampler -> failed (keeps saying the disk is write protected, altough it's pure bullshit)

i'm hopeless. i have to cancel the gig I guess.

no, NOT cracking it up!!!
just put some cleaning alcohol on a cotton clothe and rub slightly along the contacts. if the comp formats the card and the sampler still doesnt recognize it. its has to be somethign to do with the sampler itself. and for 99% ist just a contact problem (like with old gameboys) or slightly corrosion on the contacts. you could also use a q-tip if you cant reach the contacts by hand.
does the rest of the sampler work fine? if not, maybe a short cut has blewn it off. that would suck and blew your gig too. but doesnt mean its irrepairable (does this word exist?)

i meant cracking it open (=opening it up), not cracking it up.
cause it's sealed and all that.

but you have to put the memory card somewhere in. the place where the card contacts with the sampler. and there could be some corrosion fuckin up the connection.
try that. I always do that on sega genesis/mega drive modules and they work like new then

and wait a few minutes after cleaning it, so that the alcohol can completely disappear, which happens pretty fast
