I'm guessing Chelsea will have their way with the Galaxy either way. Maybe not. Something that is seemingly going unnoticed in all this hoopla is that the Galaxy are playing some terrible football (er, soccer) at the moment. Western Division Houston Dynamo FC Dallas CD Chivas USA Colorado Rapids Los Angeles Galaxy Real Salt Lake Mind, this is just the Western Division... |
Beckham's presence at Galaxy isn't about football though, is it? It's about $$$.

Hm, yes and no. The Galaxy is probably the only team in MLS that actually has a fan base that demands a good showing out of their team (DC United is a close second). So they're expecting more from Beckham than just putting people in the stands. However, money and more support is what MLS is really looking for, and I can't fault them for that. Regardless of what people think of David Beckham off the pitch, it's important for soccer (football, whatever) in this country and Canada for that matter. There is no denying this is a huge untapped market for the sport. Besides that, this is America, nothing means anything if there is no money involved. Heh... |
soccer/futbol will never catch on in a major way in america because americans cannot stand a game of "almosts" and "close calls" and "good attempts"
I understand. I can watch a soccer match if it is an international competition becasue I love international competitions , but I cannot watch british matches or mexican matches no matter how into it the crowd is. It does not help that I am Puerto Rican and we do not play futbol/soccer. Puerto Rico is a land of baseball and basketball. it seems to me that it is a sport that one must grow up in it's culture, grow up with it's rivalries, and it's superstars. |

I agree, but this not always the case. Japan and South Korea (some other parts of Asia as well) are fanatical about soccer, and this has only happened within the last twenty years. No, North Korea's 1966 World Cup run does not count. |
Oh god apparently Tom Cruise and Will Smith are hosting an "a" list party for Beckham and his swamp donkey of a wife in a friggin museum.
The only thing about the whole night that will be "a" list is that twat going "A?" to everything everyone says |
That's embarrassing.
