I tried watching it, it just didn't appeal to me. Just like American Splendor.

cryptowonderdruginvogue 09.24.2007 02:34 AM

That jawn was mad decent
I didn't find it that entertaining

edward_sick 09.24.2007 02:39 AM

Well, I don't really know what "name-drop" means, I guess I'm apparently not allowed to point out good films within the realms of a thread about a bullshit "indie masterpiece"?

My opinion is no better than yours, I'm just saying that I'm more informed on movies in general; I can like simple films like this.. but it sure as hell doesn't impress me.. it's merely a blip on the screen. Just, like I said, kind of... nothing.

And Donnie Darko is fucking TERRIBLE. Wannabe Lynch bullshit, another "indie hipster Hot Topic" shit fest. The only good thing about it is James Duvall, who I really wish acted more, he was fucking great in [name drop?!] NOWHERE (which has my favorite ending ever) and THE DOOM GENERATION (which has a dick getting cut off) and SLC PUNK! (John the Mod!). Those are some great, uhm, "indie" film.

Anyway, Ghost World is just... meh. That's all.

Finally, name-drop, name-drop, name-drop.

I can see your arugment with "Nowhere", I can appreciate the cheesiness of "The Doom Generation", (everything cost $6.66, give me a break), but you lost me at praising fucking "SLC Punk", an insult to anyone who ever played or listened to punk rock.

I love the film, images of the graphic novel bring me great sadness.

screamingskull 09.24.2007 04:03 PM

why? because the story is sad?

These are my favourite drawings from the book. But i've read my copy so many times all the pages have fallen out of the spine.

the ikara cult 09.24.2007 04:19 PM

no no, its personal. I actually find the characters quite comforting, Enid reminds me of a female version of myself in school.

In the film i have a theory that Enid, Steve Buschemi and the old man at the bus stop are 3 generations of the same person if they stay in that town, which is why at the end Enid leaves.

Toilet & Bowels 09.24.2007 04:23 PM

i like the film a lot, but it's naive to call it a masterpiece. and donnie darko is about the most over rated film of the last 10 years.

Rob Instigator 09.24.2007 04:51 PM

doom generation is the stupidest fucking film ever. a solid waste of cellulloid

I love dan clowes comix, got most of them, but the ghost world movie was about 75% as good as the comix for me. still they did a good job, and thora birch broke my heart

jon boy 09.24.2007 04:55 PM

i did really like this film even though i expected not too. i liked the bit with the blues band in that bar.

Danny Himself 09.24.2007 04:56 PM

The comic book/graphic novel is so simple visually, I love it.

atsonicpark 09.24.2007 05:32 PM

"the doom generation" is the most glorious trash ever.

"slc punk!" is fucking HILARIOUS.

"ghost world"? subpar bullshit.

Everyneurotic 09.24.2007 05:46 PM

slc punk is fantastic.

heroin bob!!!

atsonicpark 09.24.2007 05:56 PM

hahaha.

the best character is probably the one who's like "yea man fuckin steve with the fuckin mohawk n shit man" who was played by devon sawa.

Everyneurotic 09.24.2007 06:02 PM

yeah, "remember me, high school, i had a blue mohawk?" "oh, yeah, yeah...do you guys have some spare change?"

atsonicpark 09.24.2007 06:44 PM

You two are divorced. So love failed. Two: Mom, your a New Ager, clinging to every scrap of Eastern religion that may justify why the above said love failed. Three: Dad, you're a slick, corporate, preppy-ass lawyer. I don't really have to say anything else about you do I dad? Four: You move from New York City, the Mecca and hub of the cultural world to Utah! Nowhere! To change nothing! More to perpetuate this cycle of greed, fascism and triviality. Your movement of the people, by and for the people got you... nothing! You just hide behind some lost sense of drugs, sex and rock and roll. Ooooh, Kumbaya! I am the future! I am the future of this great nation which you, father, so arrogantly saved this world for. Look, I have my own agenda. Harvard, out. University of Utah, in. I'm gonna get a 4.0 in damage. I love you guys! Don't get me wrong, it's all about this. But for the first time in my life, I'm 18 and I can say "FUUUUUCK YOU!"

Everyneurotic 09.24.2007 06:51 PM

i love that part and love the unnaturally big mohawk stevo has on that scene.

"you know what that shit does to your brain?!"

i'm so watching that movie soon!!

this wednesday, they are showing the year that punk broke, then on thursday it's spinal tap and then on friday it's the filth and the fury...i'll probably watch slc punk and decline of western civilization or something between today and tomorrow.
