I kinda feel sorry of the guy, he's like 40 years too late for is scene. He's living in Topanga Canyon which was THE place to live in like 1966, but now??? it's just full of guys who have made a load of money from computer software.

i used to like his old records. now i find him annoying as hell.

Indeed, those are regional examples of folk but my point still remains that folk is essentially music that anyone can make by themselves with just a guitar (or harp or ukulele) and isn't supposed evolve the way other music does like when people say about an artist 'wow, he's really pushing the boundaries'.

But I wouldn't say that Devendra's music is an example of the hippy soft shit that you were complaining about as he incorporates more than one of the above styles into his records as well as some rock influences like T-Rex.

Artists like him sort of astound me. I just wonder who they actually appeal to. It's like Nathan Barley played totally straight.

I know exactly what you mean, And thats what I though about him initially but I think he's the real deal, His last two records are hardly folk records

i made no indication that those bands are part of the "freak folk" movement, just that they have some folk influences in their very wide ranges of sound.

on a side note: i realize that my explaining my position i sounded like a pretentious dick, and i apologizee, so ill just say that the freak folk artists do not have any appeal to me for the most part.

it amazes me that this guy sells thousands of records and somebody like Teenage Panzerkorps (arguabley the most awesome band since Harry Pussy) only sell about 500
