I first stumbled upon the Boredoms around my freshman year of High School by complete accident. My life, nor my taste in music, has ever been the same since.
|
When I was 15, I went a whole year where I listened to pretty much nothing but Boredoms. Maybe that's why they mean so much to me and have influenced everything I do musically. They really changed how I thought about music. The only musicians to do that besides Boredoms are Beefheart, Xenakis, and Partch. Just a brilliant band.

Seiichi Yamamoto composed most of the soundtrack to a pretty awesome anime film called 'Mind Game':

Boredoms fans can expect a new studio album due out in 2010.

OOIOO bring us "Armonico Hewa" October 20th.

What's a good starter album by them? I haven't heard too much by them, just a couple of songs that I thought were pretty cool.

I'd start with chocolate synthesizer. And then if you want something more tribal and otherworldly, go to super ae and move forward; if you want something goofier and noisier go to pop tatari and move backward. |
I bought Chocolate synthesizer yesterday and I absolutely love it. Never heard anything quite like it.
|
It's mindbogglingly brilliant.

The write of ''Super Going'' on page 3 of this thread perfectly sums up how I have felt/feel about this band and by extension that song.
The Boredoms to me, represent a small portion of music and ideas that haven't been lost to media influence, corporate monopoly, and overall eagerness for creating a market out of art. I'm not trying to turn this post into a ''they're doing it for the art, so they're better than......'', but its kinda hard to view them much any other way. And its good art, good ideas, ideas and sounds that make you realize you are in the future looking back at all the other music you thought you liked. |
hah okay thanks for the suggestions

HARD TRANCE

Echoing everyone else in this thread, yeah, the Boredoms are too amazing for words. Hearing Super Ae for the first time aged 15 is one of those very rare moments where I can measure everything I've experienced in music (hell, in ART) in terms of before and after that particular moment. Greatest album of the 90s for me.
I just had a t-shirt custom made with this image: ![]() on the front, and "Boredoms are like a moon on a lake. Only there is no moon and no lake. Only Boredoms." on the back. I love it. |
Oh man that sounds like a badass shirt!
I had my shirt custom made, based off another shirt image. It's Eye's pose from the super going video. |
that's awesome. i hope you gave the photog a couple bucks.

That sounds so cool. Been on a bit of a t-shirt binge. Also got a Miles Davis one made with this: ![]() on the front, and "I figure if horses can eat nothing but green shit all day and still run like a motherfucker, why not me too?" on the back. Now thinking of maybe getting a second, more colourful, Boredoms one done with this image...: ![]() |
