I'd only read the NME again if it was written by black people, gays and asylum seekers.

I don't know how its is now but 10 years ago when I was in England the NME was complete rubbish (it just looked like a tabloid).

When was the last time a significant popular trend was inherantly linked with the NME?
The strokes/Hives/Vines/White Stripes/Libertines trend was in many ways down to the NME, in the sense that the magazine promoted those bands when they werent well known and they then became big to varying degrees and sprouted a large number of imitators (Arctic Monkeys, Razorlight etc). Irrespective of what you think of that music, the magazine was a big factor in its success as a popular trend. I just dont see that sort of broad trend happening ever again, at least not in the same way, and certainly not from the pages of the NME |
maybe im thinking about the NME too much...
Drownedinsound died the day they made me buy a Hundred Reasons album. Playlouder became pay-only. I dont really rely on any British blogs anymore. Pitchfrock is ok, especially for news, but i know i disagree with it so i dont get my knickers in a twist like some people do |
