Well, I'm definitely a male and there is a part of me that naturally considers the sexual aspects of females. I think they, like me, should be able to express themselves any way they choose...but those sort of actions, considering the sort of shit she says about men, make me question her motives and sincerity.

They also worked together on her "In Limbo" record, which isn't bad. I believe Thurston played bass on it.

yeahhh he did. She also co-wrote Marilyn Moore and was super-involved with the production of EVOL and Bad Moon Rising...

(biggest shame is, they broke up cause dude is a junky and a thief. Sad. Only recordings are three vids on Youtube, and they only lasted a couple shows before the rest of the bands equipment went missing in action)...

This is the goofiest shit. This guy is a loudmouthed blue-collar comedian with a mighty self-righteous boner for himself. The video began with him making fun of some girl at a bar and ended with him having yelled in Lydia's face, refusing to listen to anything she had to say against him, calling her fat and old, getting his stupid friends to gang up on her, and threatening to hit her. And she's just an aging, callous rocker trying to give him a piece of her mind. The fact that this guy is receiving any support on these boards is bewildering to me.

On these boards at large? no... but when I started this thread people seemed into her and into No Wave, which is as I expected. I didn't think that anyone who didn't like really noisy experimental music would stay on here for long. My friends that are into SY are all pretty single-minded noise rockers and really into the scene, so I guess I'm just surprised that all of their fans aren't as homogeneous as I've experienced in real life.

Whatever she is/was, she's a great frontwoman. I've only seen her live once, as part of Harry Crews, but she owned the stage. That's obviously never captured on record but anyway, I'd say her real strengths are as a performer rather than as a musician.

It has nothing to do with ostentation or "tough guy attitude", the guy was really cool with her initially until she started acting condescending by making demands like telling him to look into her eyes or some shit. Being somehwat familiar with the guy, I can tell it wouldn't make a difference who was surrounding him and lydia. The guy speaks his mind regardless.

Perhaps it is silly that an entire page and a half has been posted about this, but what exactly is so shocking about a Sonic Youth board member disagreeing in this situation? Like I said, I don't really care enough to despise her, but she has always came off to me as patronizing and rude. I'm not ok with that just because she was involved with other musicians I happen to admire. There is enough evidence right in front of you (if you look), and this time she just happened to run into someone who wasn't going to take her demeaning behavior... and then she starts verbally backing down trying to sound like she's an angel. Pretty cowardly to me, but I guess that part isn't even in the video? maybe I'm seeing shit.

What kind of guy freaks out when someone asks them to look them in the eye? What kind of guy hits a girl for touching him on the shoulder? He was only cool with her until he realized that she wasn't a fan. She was condescending, because he was being dumb as shit. He was a defensive asshole, because he had nothing to say for himself, except that he shouldn't have to defend himself in the first place. She never even got to say whatever snarky thing she was preparing to say, because he yelled over her every time she tried. It had everything to do with a tough guy attitude by refusing to talk to her about his comedy, and if him speaking his mind is to yell "don't go attacking me, I see where yr going with this!" and "this is dopey dumb-dumb talk!" then I feel sorry for the complexity of his thoughts.
