Mmmmm... "Glacial", as every other writer describes Low's music. :D Thanks for the links! |
From LOW: Hey, our song "No Comprende" is going to be on tonight's episode of @CatfishMTV (playing the part of the kindly door-man named Paul...)
Getting a tune on TV is a big deal for musicians these days. Used to pay nothing, now it means bills paid for a month. Thanks, @CatfishMTV |
that's awesome! I love to watch Catfish. No idea how to find out whenever this particular episode will be aired over here though ....

Quoting a bit from the Reddit session LOW did last year:
"Do you get anything besides possible increased recognition when your album covers or merchandise is on TV or a movie, like the Chairkickers Union shirt Kirsten Dunst wore in Elizabethtown or this TGC poster on a character's bedroom wall on A&E's The Returned? -getting your music on tv is a big thing for lesser-known musicians - it's a little money, and huge exposure. usually they come out of nowhere - someone will contact you and ask if they can use it next week, and they tell you what they can pay you. we have turned down being used for certain commercials and movies, but usually it's great. thanks!" ![]() ![]() Somebody mentioned to me not so long ago that LOW's music had made an appearance on an episode of "The Blacklist". LOW's presence in Hollywood movies must be very rare indeed, but I remember hearing "Monkey" when I watched "Killshot", starring Mickey Rourke, Diane Lane, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt (I thought the fim was dull, though). |

A collaborative 10", "Not a Word/ I Won't Let You Fall", by Low & S. Carey will be released on Record Store Day.
![]() According to S. Carey: "“Not a Word” was an unfinished Low track I completed with producer BJ Burton, while “I Won’t Let You Fall” was an unfinished S. Carey song that Low completed with BJ." |

Hey hipster......do you see you? ![]() ![]() |
Ha, yes. I'm in the second picture. Dead front centre, dressed in black. My brother is beside me, snapping a picture. He's wearing the yellow Invisible Way t-shirt.
I loved this concert so much. The whole festival in general was great, but Low means so much to me, so it was really special to finally see them. There were sound problems at the beginning of the show. The way they dealt with that, with class and humor, and an impromptu version of "Death Of A Salesman"... I thought even that was all kinds of lovely. It all was a blissful experience (although "Words" made me cry a little bit), and I hope they come back soon (and I shall see them somewhere else as well). My brother took a few pictures, and captured HD video of a couple of songs ("Pissing", in which Alan does the Hendrix move; and a captivating version of "Laser Beam", I think). I recorded audio of the show with the Sony PCM M-10. I think the results are a bit heavy on the bass, but I have enjoyed listening to this document many times already, and will definitely share it just as soon as I catch a break from work. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Glad to hear it was such a good show, from the pictures that Bytor posted it looked like a very nice festival, small setup and not overly crowded. Looking forward to your recording! |

Looking good...... ![]() I just wanted to say how much I enjoyed your story. When I first saw LOW, I didn't know a thing about them. A buddy and I left a concert at Rice University and made our way over to Urban Art Bar to see LOW. Believe my friend had one song by them on a compilation CD and wanted to attend the show so he could hopefully buy a proper release on vinyl. Anyway, I've seen LOW five times and not once did I get to experience what you and your Brother did last Saturday......see them play outside and during the day. Your Brothers pics are spectacular! The one of the strings at the end of the guitar looks as if he took the pic while standing on the stage. Thanks for sharing the experience, I enjoyed it! Oh - one last thing, how was the rest if the festival? I checked the festivals Twitter feed and it was mostly techno / drum & bass type stuff......any other groups you were excited to see? |
Here ya go:
https://archive.org/details/low2016-03-12.aud Sorry it sounds a bit heavy on the bass. Hope you enjoy, regardless. ![]() |
I found out about Low by watching the "Over The Ocean" video on eMpTV. So I guess I'm the lamest one here. :(

Thank you! |
Not lame at all. "Over The Ocean" has a great video. Phillip Harder has done a monumental job, generally speaking (I still long to see "Low Movie (How to Quit Smoking").

I really enjoyed this......was the NPR interview with Mimi posted in this thread? If so, I missed it - thanks for sharing! Also, I've enjoyed listening to your recording of the Mexico show. All the banter during the sound issues is something to hear, so glad you captured it! Thanks for sharing the additional pictures from your Brother. If you don't mind, please take a moment and tell me about the Jenny Hval set. She is one of those Scared Bones artist I'm slowly getting into. I didn't realize you were a Acid Mothers fan, what it your first time seeing them? So jealous you got to see Slowdive...... |
I'm glad you enjoyed the LOW recording! :)
I am fascinated by norwegian artists like Guro Skumsnes Moe, Håvard Skaset, Stine Janvin Motland, Lasse Marhaug... all of whom are interdisciplinary artists. I see Jenny Hval as an integral part of that scene (if you'd wanna call it that). I don't really follow Sacred Bones (Besides "Apocalypse, Girl", I only have their reissues of David Lynch's work and a few records by Zola Jesus). She is considered a radical artist in Norway, even if her musical language can be pretty much considered to be pop music. Conceptually, the latest record is about the apocalypse as a personal, intimate tragedy. I was shaken by her performance, at one point she dared people to cry, and themes of death, tears, blood, alienation... were omnipresent throughtout the show. It all ended on a miserable note when she put on Lana Del Rey's "Summertime Sadness"... Later, Håvard Volden & Jenny Hval signed my copy of "Apocalypse, Girl", and that vanished all thoughts about death which had been lingering on my mind after watching their performance. It was my first time seeing Acid Mothers Temple. I had seen Kawabata Makoto perform twice last year. One of those shows was pretty fucking wild, and the other was very beautiful. Their concert was like a total barrier of sound, with very few moments of melodic passages. Psychedelic imagery all around. It was truly wonderful to see Slowdive. They've always been one of my favorite bands, so it was another dream come true (as with Low), all in the same weekend. Lovely show, even if not the best technically speaking. Anyway, I hope to share some of the recordings at some point. Meanwhile, here's video of LOW performing "Pissing" (Alan doing the Hendrix move at the end of the song, people went nuts): https://vimeo.com/159899685 ![]() |

Plus, I watched it when it came out, back in '96. That's gotta redeem me a little bit. :D |

Apparently, a video recording of LOW performing "Murderer" at Festival Nrmal will show up tomorrow on Youboob, courtesy of RaRaRa Films & Pitchfork.tv (Alan mentioned before the song, that it was inspired by something that actually happened in Mexico).

I want another LOW album already.
|
I want another RGC album first!
And a Europe tour :) wow check the post time, that's spooky |
Wow, weird.
Yes I'd also love another Retribution Gospel Choir album, for sure. And I'd love to catch them live again. But seriously I'm already wanting another LOW record to come out. At least an EP or something. Just to tide me over. |
The next thing that needs to happen is a Mimi Parker solo album!
......but I'll settle for a new Christmas album : ) |
