I played Swans' "Beautiful Child" in the car on the way to the beach recently and my friend said it made him worry about me.

I should have mentioned his affection for shitty techno and wanky classic rock worried me.

Also I've been listening to Prurient's Time Began in a Garden. Abysmal stuff right there.

Dr. Eugene Felikson 03.26.2009 05:49 AM

Mortiis is eerie.

atsonicpark 09.30.2009 07:24 PM

Yeah, gonna have to comb over this thread some more. I know most of these bands but yeah, I'm really into scary and disturbing shit.

SuperCreep 09.30.2009 07:29 PM

Univers Zero are the only band I find "scary" especially Heresie.

Current 93's industrial stuff comes close, but I can't help but laugh at some of it ("MAAAAAAALLLLLLLLDOOOOOOOOOOOORRRROOOOOOOOOOOORRR RR SUCKING COCKS IN HEELLLLLLLLL!")

atsonicpark 09.30.2009 07:33 PM

SuperCreep, didn't know you were into Univers Zero, I LOVE them...

SuperCreep 09.30.2009 07:43 PM

Their first four albums are really great, and they got me into Bartok too! I wish I could find some similar bands. Someone recommended me some Art Zoyd once, but it was way too wanky to be close to UZ.

automatic bzooty 09.30.2009 08:16 PM

i laughed so fucking hard at the suggestion that sparks are scary or disturbing or anything of the sort. tears of lol.

mark e smith disturbs me, but i ain't scared of no fall.

atsonicpark 09.30.2009 08:21 PM

This richard chartier disc I just got..

It's all made with weird high-pitched computer noises, the highest possible pitches that can still be listened to with human ears (with plenty of other sounds I can't hear because I just opened a track up in Adobe Audition and looked)... the thing is, they're extremely brief, disconnected snippets of these irritating, ridiculous, excruciating to listen to bits... the rest of the album is completely silent.. I'm talking a 60 minute album of about 30 minutes of which is silence and the rest is this awful noise coming at you, and you never know when... it's terrifying to listen to, truely.

See, I find Throbbing Gristle REALLY funny. Maybe that's just me, though. Everyone always talks about how "creepy" all of it is and I never got it.

Ditto with Whitehouse and Sutcliffe Jugend.

atsonicpark 10.01.2009 06:03 AM

Throbbing Gristle just doesn't do anything for me, one way or another, aside from one album...

Boring fart noises with P-Orridge going "waaaaahhhhhhhhh" through a Gristelizer.

This Is Not Here 10.01.2009 07:30 AM

Not bands, but: Scott Walker, Diamanda Galas, Pain Teens

you're probably well aware of this, but if not...

try this record:

for the people mentioning the buttholes, yeah, i didn't see them in the full-fledged freak mode of Kathleen, but the shows i saw in '89 and '90 were spectacularly awesome and disturbing.

i saw 'em last night.

it was a great set list, good performance all around, but there was not the slightest sense of uneasiness or creepiness...it actually reminded me of being terrified by a large neighborhood dog when you were a kid, only now thet dog's old, mangy, missing a few teeth and can only manage a half-hearted growl...the drool is the only disturbing bit left...

Jerry Garcia 10.01.2009 09:34 AM

Black Mayonnaise

The Butthole Surfers are a pretty scary/disturbing band.

DanielCarlson 10.01.2009 02:17 PM

Mr. Bungle's "Disco Volante" is scary as hell sometimes. Especially The Bends...

Scott Walker's "The Drift" and "Tilt".

Some stuff by Coil.

Those are the first things that pop up in my mind right now.

DanielCarlson 10.01.2009 02:57 PM

Oh, and Swans are pretty scary sometimes.

atsonicpark 10.01.2009 02:58 PM

I think I know what you mean by Disco Volante. The very end of MA SKEEZ MOW SKOWZ or whatever, specifically.. after the song ends, it's silent for about 3 seconds, then it's a REALLY REALLY LOUD fuck-off thing with mike screaming.. jesus.

atsonicpark 10.01.2009 02:59 PM

swans are my chill-out summer soundtrack.

whorefrost 10.01.2009 03:40 PM

What has happened to Sarramkrop?

atsonicpark 10.01.2009 03:42 PM

He's Geentel Death.

Toilet & Bowels 10.01.2009 03:46 PM

that thinking fellers song "perfect circle" is disturbing/funny

automatic bzooty 10.01.2009 06:34 PM

i am thee biggest pussy ever but i lol'd at one of those purportedly scary scott walker albums. the drift, i believe. i couldn't take it seriously!

atsonicpark 10.01.2009 11:20 PM

Yeah, it's hilarious. Even though what he's talking about is pretty serious.

atsonicpark 10.06.2009 11:37 AM

Sotos rules, i have everything..

jon boy 10.06.2009 11:57 AM

i dont think there is anything that really scares or disturbs me musically. perhaps extrem harsh noise live is scary but thats only because of the loudness and most everyone is scared of loud noises. maybe if i was going to see something like gg allin i would be scared but thats more the threat of physical violence than anything else.

narlus 10.06.2009 12:43 PM

Peter Sotos is performing in Boston in 3 week's time.

batreleaser 10.07.2009 08:09 AM

i havnt been scared of any music in a long time, i remember the first time i heard "black one" in highschool on headphones stoned, and yeah, that kinda freaked me out. makes me feel kinda pussy in retrospect though.

batreleaser 10.07.2009 08:11 AM

"the drift" i actualy a decent choice, its so melodramatic one cant help but be sorta creeped by it. i love that record.
