Well, I'm not surprised. I think most people here don't really like much music at all.

krastian 03.26.2008 10:31 PM

Betrayal Takes Two is one of my favorite songs EVER!! Ha!

Everyneurotic 03.26.2008 11:08 PM

i really love 77 and remain in light, and have been meaning to check out food and buildings and fear of music.

krastian 03.26.2008 11:11 PM

Food and Fear are my 2 favorite Talking Heads albums....recommended!!

yeah listen to food next

Cantankerous 03.26.2008 11:28 PM

no no
get "the name of this band is talking heads"

you will not regret it

and it just doesn't sound quite right without the article in front of it because heads is plural.

batreleaser 03.26.2008 11:52 PM

dont tell me im not into a lot of music because i dont like talking heads, thats one band.

i consider everything from leanord cohen to the wipers to beefheart to ornette coleman to wu tang to slayer to merzbow to curtis mayfield all to be some of my favorites, just because i dont enjoy the music of one band does not mean my taste is small or limited.

uhler 03.27.2008 12:35 AM

uhler 03.27.2008 12:41 AM

i just felt this thread needed a mention of black flag.

rollins called me up and yelled at me that i haven't done my daily mention of black flag on the sonic youth board.

fugazifan 03.27.2008 02:40 AM

as mch as i love damaged and a few other songs most of BF's output was crap.
talking heads are waay better.
i love the talking heads
favortie albums are
more songs
remain in light
the name of the band (vinyl)
fear of music (although it has their worst song on it-heaven)
tied with that are speaking in tounges and 77

you have to see stop making sense
its amazing!

sarramkrop 03.27.2008 04:23 AM

I'd like to take this chance to point out that Robert Quine sucks more than looking after a rat with hepatitis. Talking Heads are also more boring than watching an Eastenders omnibus.

Rob Instigator 03.27.2008 11:01 AM

I fell in love with the first talking heads record a decade ago. I love their music. They do what they do. melodic, weird lyrics, enjoyable songs.

blank generation is OVER-RATED

black flag > talking heads

that goes without saying, the jealous again ep alone is better than most of the cbgb's crowd entire discographies combined.

Rob Instigator 03.28.2008 09:19 AM

I know I will get my ass chewed up but Black Flag's albums are nearly as boring as Blank generation, and they do NOT hold up at all copared to talking head's first 4 albums.

fuck black flag. MOST OVER-RATED PUNK BAND EVER.

I admire their ehos, and their DIY aesthetic, and what they accomplished but their music is BORING and 90% SUCKS.

the exploited are the most overrated punk band ever.

i can understand you not liking black flag, but calling them boring is something else.

compared to black flag, talking heads are like the new kids on the block.

Rob Instigator 03.28.2008 10:27 AM

you may be right about The Exploited. I stand corrected.

sarramkrop 03.28.2008 10:33 AM

I can't believe people like talking heads.

Rob Instigator 03.28.2008 10:39 AM

what's not to like?

Don't Worry 'bout the Government
and
The Book I Read
are two of my top favorite songs ever

The Book I Read is fucking better than anything richard Hell ever even heard of.

█████████ 03.28.2008 10:53 AM

arrgh!... HELL SUCKS!

The only record that has David Byrne on it that I like is 'My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts''. His voice alone makes me want to run to the loo.

sarramkrop 03.28.2008 11:07 AM

I don't know, maybe it is because my brother used to play fucking Talking Heads 24/7, but I really don't even like the idea of their existence as a band.

Rob Instigator 03.28.2008 11:07 AM

that's understandable.

richard hell seems to do the same to me.

the first 4 albums are classic, the Remain in Light concert in Portland aine was one of the best concerts I've ever seen.

sarramkrop 03.28.2008 11:37 AM

Whatever, I still don't like them. Duh!

batreleaser 03.28.2008 01:45 PM

me niether, why is it so hard for people to believe that people disagree with them?

I could be that, in spite of being 'a bit funky', it's about as sexy as soil with a high PH. In the 1980s, that counts for 'seminal'. In the 90s, it counts for Jameraquoi [sp?]. Funny how times changes etc.

theres just nothing i hate more than people taking personal offense to others' differing opinions on pop culture, music, literature, film, art, or whatever. its the differences among us that make us all interesting, it would royally suck if we all liked the exact same fucking things! i mean, yes, obviously people on a sonic youth board are very generally into the same things, as far as underground culture is concerned. but theres no reason to get mad over people not liking the exact same bands as you.

i mean, ive had people get on my case for not liking sleater kinney, the cure, the talking heads, etc... and its just annoying. i mean, ive seen people say they like weezer's first ablum, which i think is one of the most horrid turds of a record ever shat into our culture, and basically just emo punk accesible for low iq frat dudes. but, i never say this to anyone because i respect their opinion, and can understand that there is something about this music that they like. from now on i propose we dont start pointless arguements about our varying tastes.

Rob Instigator 03.28.2008 03:49 PM

I can dig it batreleaser

fuck weezer I say

I cant remember who said what about Black Flag, BUT I don know that if the early music of black flag doesn't get inside your soul and resonate with some type of emotion, something in your blood, then your perception of boredom is a off. There is no comparing BF to TH to RH, they are all different types of music and appeal to different parts within all of us, I to think that musically speaking Blank Generation is vastly overrated, but reading between the lines, it was still an important record for the culture. ROB, you have a genrally speaking open minded taste towards music, why do you think that black flag is boring?

Everyneurotic 03.28.2008 07:45 PM

anybody can like and dislike whatever they like or dislike without any real explanations. if you don't feel it, that's fine, there's other things you feel.

uhler 03.28.2008 10:11 PM

i was just kidding around when i compared black flag to the other bands. i didn't mean it to get into some huge debate.

Everyneurotic 03.28.2008 10:35 PM

i was kinda comparing them in how much i enjoyed them plus the impact and influence, etc.

still, they are very different bands and uncomparable in most ways.

It's ok, that was obviously a tongue-in-cheek comment. I personally don't see what the appeal of this most sterile of bands is, and that is hardly going to stop anyone from listening to them, is it? Well, in an ideal world that would be the case, but then in an ideal world I would force you all to lend you ears to more vital music than David ''Where's The Nearest Toilet?I Need To Sing a Song'' Byrne. Their brand of downtown NYC (or whatever they call it) funk-new wave-blah blah goes into one ear and deafens it for good.
