They're very popular in Australia. And they don't sound or look similar to Nirvana anymore. I don't mind some of their new stuff, which is more "pop", and not guitar-based.

Monaco. Reef. Orbital.

Tiger had that really cool song, though. I like Death In Vegas' singles when they had a more dancey feel to them, and I don't mind some of the stuff like 'Dirge' etc.

I had the Nought ep's too. I was a lot into Mogwai and the ''post-rock'' stuff that you had at that time, so they were up there for me, even though I can't remember any music by them at all.

this WOULD be awesome if she could sing

MellySingsDoom 07.16.2008 10:34 AM

Ah yeah, I saw this when it went out. Great discordant violin and fuzz bass. The "singing" is all part of the fun too, in me opinion. Go girls, go!

Cantankerous 07.16.2008 10:37 AM

i'm inclined to like it because it's almost like they're just taking the piss

http://youtube.com/watch?v=d-7lJGwTQ2c

sarramkrop 07.16.2008 11:09 AM

There was a vaguely ironic revival of those two in the early 00's, at least in some clubs.

HECKLER SPRAY 07.17.2008 02:22 PM

powderfinger (which i can't believe i still have their album)

...i guess you were right about australia and shit forgettable bands.

k-krack 07.18.2008 05:04 PM

This might get a bit of flak, but I'm willing to say "any band in the early-mid 1990s that was labelled either "alternative rock" or "grunge" by mainstream media (and wasn't Nirvana or Mudhoney or one of the few bands that somehow found themselves well-known with actually great music...)

Know what I mean, eh eh?

Atually thinking about it, he kinda looks like Michael Stipe's attention seeking younger brother in that picture.

The one i get is Charlie from Lost, who was apparently in a band.

I actually do see the similarity, but wouldn't notice it myself.

Bertrand 07.19.2008 04:08 AM

In spite of the efforts combined by Geffen and either NME or Melody Maker, in spite of all the namedropping they did and that onstage blowjob, the Nymphs quickly vanished.

I feel the same about Jonathan Fire Eater; there's one song I like on the EP and the album had nothing to catch my ear. And there were some people to say good things about these guys.

The Times; or was it just the only album I bought that was shittier than Chicago?

Johnny Favorite (just kidding).
