They've got strict rules there.

mil_pl 04.21.2009 01:53 PM

oh yes we have, but it's good in a way.

stophereyes 04.21.2009 02:32 PM

I think these are easily some of Kim's worst lyrics, and the fact this was chosen for the preview does not bode well for the album.

Antagon 04.21.2009 03:41 PM

Leaves much to be desired but still a good start. Dirty-esque, short and full of power...not too bad after all.

someone put a fake of "the eternal" somewhere, and when i listened to it, i was so happy and excited about the new album - till i realized, that i already know the tracks from "the destroyed room", syr and other sources. But in fact - this fake-album sounds so much better! who ever of you guys did it: right, thats what it could be.

And sacred trickster? well, its ok for an intro, and i hope, thats what it is.

they're probably saving the best for later. when people get the album.

nicfit 04.21.2009 04:18 PM

well, in 7 days I'll know.

eternal 04.21.2009 07:57 PM

great song! but why so short? they had a good idea with the song, they should have made up another part or something..

Well there's quite a few long songs on the album.

Yeah I saw that Pitchfork review earlier.. as usual, I hate their review style. Best place to find news for bands though at least.

Sonic Youth seem to be one of the few bands that seem escape songwriting crimes just because of a bit of noise they are supposedly meant to plant on the middle of them. There's so much to be said about that, it's better to just keep relatively quiet about it.

nicfit 04.24.2009 03:57 AM

Still, I like their "bits of noise" much more than entire discographies by bands who play just "noise" and seem to be are hailed as gods just because of that.

that said, I don't think each sy songs needs noisy parts/improvs.

greedrex 04.24.2009 04:10 AM

^^ The two excellent posters above are right. This song, however, i find, is reminiscent of a modern Kool thing so i kind of hear that noisey bridge. It's irrelevant though as the song is what it is anyway.

I might add: "but I definitely enjoy when they add some noisy breakdowns/parts when playing live".

Theremin 04.24.2009 08:29 AM

It's okay but I can't shake the feeling that they could've done a bit more with this. But then again, in the context of the album it could prove to be a powerful manifesto to much greater things.

deflinus 04.24.2009 05:48 PM

you guys think too much.

GeneticKiss 04.24.2009 07:48 PM

Good track, but ends too soon...much like 100% and Starfield Road before it.

I don't know; I listened to Dirty the other day for the first time in a few years (its not exactly my fav SY album) and some of Kim's songs on there really are appalling. In fact, Youth Against Fascism aside, she pretty much has all the turkeys on the album. Swimsuit Issue is particularly clumsy and awful. This is unusual, because I usually particularly like Kim's songs.
Back on topic, after 10 or so listens, I really like Sacred Trickster. It'll be interesting to see how it sits with the rest of the album.

Actually Kim's songs on Dirty are some of the best tracks. JC On The Strip Crémee Brulée

Kyohan 04.25.2009 09:59 AM

I like Orange Rolls..., and On the Strip is pretty good, but I'm really not keen on the rest. Wish Fulfillment is probably the only song on Dirty that I really like.

joe11121 04.25.2009 10:35 AM

JC is gold.
But, on topic, Sacred Trickster rocks!

Word. Kim rocks that album, except for maybe Shoot. I'm not that fond of that one.

As for Sacred Trickster, it's a winner in my book, can't wait for the album.

Danny Himself 04.25.2009 02:30 PM

I think the vocal could've done without that crappy reverb. Maybe it'd be more suited to a distorted payphone effect or just anything with a bit of edge to it. The reverb on the vox just doesn't gel with the immediate, skronky riffs, it feels like the vocal track is from a completely different song or something. That's my only real problem with this track.

mil_pl 04.26.2009 03:24 PM

so, we are waitng for tuesday, huh?

krastian 04.27.2009 07:18 PM

I think it's a pretty rockin' tune. Hopefully they play it loud as fuck live.
