I got my Pj vinyl yesterday. At first I must say that the covers is again fascinating! There is same style of all the PJ album covers as there is SY Syr-serie and I like it! But the music...Well I was listened it just once. And I knew that the album would be very different as the predecessor. But still I was yesterday quite disappointed. I think her new direction is too mediocre to me. I liked the sound of autoharp, but maybe it´s not a good instrument to compose. Also the samples on the songs didn´t work (only in "England" they worked). Maybe the problem is that in album is very English atmosphere and I couldn´t understand it because I´m not English (I have to say the Who is one of my favourites). I really hope my opinion changes when I listen it many times again.

Now I have listened it four times and it has opened a lot. Let England shake, the Glorius Land, On Battleship Hill, England, In the dark places, Bitter Brances are just great songs, but still I think her predecessors are much better enteties than this. At first that brass-sample on the glorius land irritates me much, but now I´m quite used to it. Can somebody tell me what that brass-tune is? I think it´s kind of funny that both Kate Bush and Pj Harvey are kind of "England fans" although I know neither of them are not any kind of nationalists.

New Single Details Announced

It has just been confirmed that ‘The Glorious Land’ will be the second single to be released from ‘Let England Shake’. Slated for an April 18th released date, the single will be available on digital and 7” vinyl. The 7” vinyl will be backed by the track ‘The Nightingale’ which was recorded during the ‘Let England Shake’ album sessions.

PJ Harvey is an artist I've never really been able to get into.

However, I am a big fan of Stories from the City/Sea, and Let England Shake. Both of those albums are absolutely fantastic.

I see her as aging into a kind of female Tom Waits. Why do I think that? I don't know. But it sounds cool.

I watched this on BBC News (TV, not Interwebs) a little over three hours ago. It was followed by a live Q&A with Dorian Lynskey, author of 33 Revolutions per Minute: A History of Protest Songs from Billie Holiday to Green Day, which lasted at least, I dunno, three minutes or so and it was pretty decent. I bring this up because U.S. channels NEVER do anything like that, at least not in the main newscast... nor any-fuckin'-where else, for the most part (where were they when Ornette Coleman won the Pulitzer, for example?). Fuckers.

They would only give wide coverage if a death occurs, preferably if it's shocking and linked to some weirdness. Remember Michael Jackson's, then compare with how poor attention Rashied Ali's death received. Just a general observation. I'm so glad Polly won, and hopefully someone captured the broadcast of the historic ceremony (i think it was broadcast by the BBC), I look forward to a torrent.
