I got my Pj vinyl yesterday. At first I must say that the covers is again fascinating! There is same style of all the PJ album covers as there is SY Syr-serie and I like it! But the music...Well I was listened it just once. And I knew that the album would be very different as the predecessor. But still I was yesterday quite disappointed. I think her new direction is too mediocre to me. I liked the sound of autoharp, but maybe itīs not a good instrument to compose. Also the samples on the songs didnīt work (only in "England" they worked). Maybe the problem is that in album is very English atmosphere and I couldnīt understand it because Iīm not English (I have to say the Who is one of my favourites). I really hope my opinion changes when I listen it many times again.

Now I have listened it four times and it has opened a lot. Let England shake, the Glorius Land, On Battleship Hill, England, In the dark places, Bitter Brances are just great songs, but still I think her predecessors are much better enteties than this. At first that brass-sample on the glorius land irritates me much, but now Iīm quite used to it. Can somebody tell me what that brass-tune is? I think itīs kind of funny that both Kate Bush and Pj Harvey are kind of "England fans" although I know neither of them are not any kind of nationalists.

I was totally blown away by her performance. What Danelectro guitar is she playing there? Anybody know? ~Jeremy~ |

no Dano, it's a Valco Airline guitar (Or some Eastwood Airline 3p dlx, if it's not "vintage"...). |
Ah, thanks guys, from the shape of it I assumed it was some weird Danelectro model.
Researching Valco stuff now, they had a lot of Jazzmaster and Jaguar knock-offs for a few years... ~Jeremy~ |

Very cool. I bet a good number of Polly Jean "fans" wouldn't listen to an Ian Stewart recording if their wretched lives depended on it. To the fiery pits with the whole bunchuvem. |

On another subject, i just came across a link to download a video of PJ Harvey's performance at La Maroquinerie in Paris, France, on February 14, 2011. No lineage provided, but it's a 4.94 GB .MOV file, so it must be very superior to the .flv video file that i linked to previously in this thread: http://musicartvcl.blogspot.com/2011...-paris_28.html |

Only just now started listening to her. I've seen the cover for Rid of Me again and again for years. And I always hear nice things about her. I've been mainly listening to Dry to begin with. Pretty apt title, but I enjoy it.

Thank you hipster bebop, for the links. All amazing.

Dry is great, but if you need to listen to just one record, I highly recommend Is This Desire.... That album is perfect. ~Jeremy~ |
PJ Harvey is an artist I've never really been able to get into.
However, I am a big fan of Stories from the City/Sea, and Let England Shake. Both of those albums are absolutely fantastic. I see her as aging into a kind of female Tom Waits. Why do I think that? I don't know. But it sounds cool. |
