Yes

nicfit 08.25.2010 08:10 AM

How rude, he's not semi-naked, he's white dressed.

Green_mind 08.25.2010 08:16 AM

haha, I'd get naked for a show, but unfortunately it's a grower not a shower.
awesome song btw, were there many people around for it?

That stage was very cool. They had to extend it for GNOD and Faust though.

This is the house, the grounds of which we played in at the weekend. Plus some footage of Faust at the end.

Review of Friday/ Saturday here - poor bugger cracked a rib leaning on it and went to A&E on Sunday. Some great piccies as well.

Genteel Death 08.26.2010 11:29 AM

Glice- I'm really hoping you make your photographic debut on this forum with that picture (you know the one)I've taken while you were onstage. You look very cool on it.

Toilet & Bowels 08.26.2010 02:15 PM

he looked like a leprechaun dancing about & playing that fiddle

Genteel Death 08.26.2010 02:56 PM

Did any of you take part in that ''the people speak'' or whatever it was called thing? There was a black guy who asked the lezzers around the table why some of them go for women who are very masculine in appearance and a bunch of them started giving him shit about his supposed homophobia and coming up with these comparisons to judging someone because of the colour of their skin and blah blah, which had nothing to do with a simple question out of curiousity and nothing else. The guy didn't come across as a homophobe at all and I was chatting to him a couple of times afterwards and confirmed it. That thing was fun though, if only because you could talk shit and Fuck Knuckles was taking the mickey out of everything and everyone.

Love that stage.

Marras, there was no "official" coverage (I mean, some guy/guys who had the task of recording some footage and stuff)?
Seems like one of those festival which would make for a great cut-up lo fi doc or something.
I speak bad english.

No idea.

Genteel Death 08.26.2010 03:39 PM

Keran just told me that they tried recording most things and other people were too. They will get in touch when they get it all sorted.

I don't have a public space for photos - if you were to post any of those pictures (which are utterly gorgeous) on this forum, I wouldn't object; I just can't be fucked myself.

Although I should note that they'll very likely form part of promotional material for myself soon enough.

Yes, and what a nice review too!

Same for Thought Forms, really nice words on them in that blog article.

That 3 VVSR tracks available on Youtube are all fantastic.

please do. glice himself has granted you permission to do so.

Glice 08.27.2010 06:54 AM

He's done so already. Check out the shoes yo.

_slavo_ 08.27.2010 07:05 AM

if that's you with that dark Stratocaster on that black&white shot, then we're cool.
i was just puzzled by the comment on you dancing with fiddle on the stage like a leprechaun

_slavo_ 08.27.2010 07:45 AM

This thread made me discover some great music. Like Gnod.

Genteel Death 08.27.2010 07:53 AM

I'll up a few more pics of others, drunk quality. Glice, I saw your back on a stage pic of the a band too.

nicfit 08.27.2010 08:19 AM

Glice, did you get my little package yet?
Does the previous sentence sound like a sexual innuendo?
Gnod are reeeeeeally good judging from what I heard scattered around the net, I think they might be the perfect antidote for my Paik abstinence.

Glice 08.27.2010 08:24 AM

I haven't seen your package yet, but I'm looking forward to it spilling its lovely contents into my lap.

Genteel Death 08.27.2010 09:25 AM

Gnod were unbelievably rocking. Even if you'd take away all the costumes and stage antics(which were great), they'd still bring the house down.

Phlegmscope 08.27.2010 09:40 AM

So the bloke with the boots and the strat is glice? This is so... disappointing. I was expecting something like Nietzsche conducting a section of alpenhorns.

Strat? Ł80 knock-off. I have a habit of throwing guitars around (less so solo) so expensive guitars are a definite no-no. I wish I did look like Nietzsche conducting a section of alpinehorns, that'd be AWESOMES.

Cheers Derek, you're too kind.

Genteel Death 08.27.2010 12:14 PM

VVSR

Genteel Death 08.27.2010 12:18 PM

VVSR (need to ask their drummer to take his clothes off too for proper homoerotic effect)

On a side note, I'm experiencing quite a lot of problems dling from the (nice!) link you posted, if anyone cares to help with an upload on a different hosting site (from the sharebee link the only active one seems to be megaupload, and it's acting silly from this afternoon..at least with my internet connection ) will be appreciated.

They were definitely band of the weekend for me. I was always going to think Faust were amazing, but Gnod really felt like a far bigger band than they are (and hopefully they'll get there sooner rather than later).

A slightly more expansive appraisal, as I'm waiting for some pork to cook. I'm now unsure of the order, so going on the pre-festival line-up on the website. I'll leave out the stuff I didn't see or thought was shite:

Friday

Maria and the Mirrors - AMAZING, great openers, and a real sense of malice to them. I'll always fall for female drummers, but there was some really tidy rhythms going on there.

IMBOGODOM - I'm not normally a fan of pedal processing (except when Team Brick or Little Creature do it) but these had a really nice noisy ambience to them that sort of suited a polite field of deck chairs.

Eviltones - well-placed in the line-up; ideal festival stuff really, not the sort of thing I'd normally see, but worked pretty well as a background to nattering.

Hákarl - clearly the most awesome thing any human has ever done, and a sexy fucker to boot.

El Toro - I remember enjoying them, but I can't remember what they actually sounded like. Garagey rockabilly, it seems - I think they were the last 'standard' band that I enjoyed.

Proxy Music - Crowd really enjoyed it. I was horrifically pissed by that point, so I was sort of watching more than listening. They did a nice narrative of Roxy Music, rather than just the hits.

Saturday

Rex Nemo and the Psychick Self-Defenders - Great 'art-school' theatrics, funny and brilliantly confusing. Watching Paddy from Gnod scaring the kids watching was brilliant.

Listening Mirror - Lush ambience and a really peculiar sense of internal logic to the songs. Amazingly accomplished, especially given the stress of getting the show and that it was their first show. Lush people as well.

Polly and the Billets Doux - Very much not the sort of thing I'd usually enjoy, but very charming performers. Again, good background to nattering/ drinking.

Hyrst - A nice appearance from the sort of rockism that SYG likes a lot (I think, my memory is hazy. A bit Wire, a bit 80s alt-rock, a bit post-rock.

Bong - A lot better than I was expecting. Really nice injection of some drifting.

Thought Forms - I actually managed to fall asleep after their first song (boo to me). Their first song was simply brilliant, a really nice spacey weird-out thing with a weird instrument that I couldn't get a tune out of for toffee. They're a band I've seen quite a few times now, and they really do get better and better. I did see them the week before (while awake) and they're definitely someone to check out for any reason.

Missed some bands then, I think I was off getting food/ booze/ nattering.

Gnod - Fucking astonishingly brilliant. Really quite special indeed, well worth seeing. I know that doesn't really describe anything, but fuck you, this is my review.

Faust - one of the world's greatest bands. It was pretty much the same set as the one I saw last time they played, but I could happily watch their angle-grinder utter fuckstation cover of Dylan every night for the rest of my days. And doing that song with the French bits (I forget what it's called) was a fantastic headwreck of cross-rhythms.

Sunday

Fuck Knuckles - Brilliant wake-up, fantastic racket, great use of the 'has he stopped yet?' technique of seeming to finish 20 times. Nice chaps as well.

VVSR - I was quite pleased to see them be really interesting, theatrically. And probably the best-looking band of the weekend. Loads of fun and carrying of the rag-taggle band thing well. Le Dentiste is a preposterous song to be so catchy.

Sunday Mourning - great, though arguably went on too long. Listened to their tape on the way back, and it's a really, really good one.

Big Naturals - Some nice high-octane* stoner fuzz, really tight and unrelenting. Minimum of between-song banter, just got down and got on with it.

*apologies for stock phrase bullshit

I went into town to find cash at this point, so missed another load of bands (some of whom may have been terrible).

A-Band - I was wandering to my tent to put on a jumper or something, and one of the A-Band collared me and asked me to play with them. Couldn't hear a bloody thing on-stage, did a bit of running around with a whirly thing, had a great time. I've no idea what it sounded like, but it was the most fun I've had on stage in absolutely ages.

And then I disappeared into dancing and being the most drunk person imaginable. Ended up drinking free booze in the caravan with Deej Thought Forms and others. Brilliant, and I was so incredibly pissed it was ridiculous.

Yeah. Good times.

nicfit 08.27.2010 01:58 PM

A stupid question, who was in Faust's lineup for this gig?
